Mononucleosis

Yeah, I actually tried huffing Scotchgard after reading The Pod liner notes. It gave me a terrible headache, and then I passed out for an hour. I don't blame Ween, because I was the kid stupid enough to try huffing the shit just because a band claimed they did.

Gene and Dean never actually inhaled Scotchguard. They made that shit up.

Deaner was suffering from mononucleosis when this song was wrighten, so im guessing its about Deaner and his mononucleosis

Both of them got Mono whilst they were in the midst of recording "The Pod". That's why it took a few months to record, and why the tracks differ in sound quality and overall intonation.

In addition to Gener and Deaner sharing mono during the Pod sessions, they were also inhaling Scotchguard (yes, the furniture protector). So everything here is extra fucked up, and brilliant.

I think song is more about just being bummed out in general and like the wide variety of things that cold be the cause could also be assumed as the meaning such as the lack of democracy and the lack of justice throughout the world, the lack of emotion, the lack of creativity, and the lack of freedom. I think the way deaner is portrayed typical of a "troubled teenager" who's resorting to drugs to escape such a fucked up world and like he just has his best buddy, and the huge change at the end reveals the last hope and the eternity and infinity of the universe itself and perhaps the energy that life experiences it with. goodnight and goodluck

The Scotchguard myth came about because they were trying to think of the most scumbag thing they possibly could have.

Also when I had Mono a couple of years ago I certainly felt pretty bad, I could really see this just being about Mono, or maybe just how shitty things got sometimes.
