Get Off The Stage Lyrics

Oh, you silly old man
You silly old man
You're making a fool of yourself
So get off the stage

You silly old man
In your misguided trousers
With your mascara and your Fender guitar
And you think you can arouse us ?

But the song that you just sang
It sounds exactly like the last one
And the next one
I bet you it will sound
Like this one

Downstage, and offstage
Don't you feel all run in ?
And do you wonder when they will take it away ?
This is your final fling

But then applause ran high
But for the patience of the ones behind you
As a verse drags on like a month drags on
It's very short, but it seems very long

And the song that you just sang
It sounds exactly like the last one
And the next one
I bet you it will sound
Like this one

So, get off the stage
Oh, get off the stage
And when we get down off of the stage
Please stay off the stage - ALL DAY !

Get off the stage
Oh, get off the stage
And when we've had our money back
Then I'd like your back in plaster

Oh, I know that you say
How age has no meaning
Oh, but here is your audience now
And they're screaming :

"Get off the stage"
Oh, get off the stage
Because I've given you enough of my time
And the money that wasn't even mine
Have you seen yourself recently ?

Oh, get off the stage
Oh, get off the stage
For whom, oh ...
For whom, oh ...
For whom, oh ...
For whom, oh ...

Get off the stage
Get off the stage
Get off the stage

For whom the bell tolls

Everybody I know seems to prefer the Rolling Stones to Morrissey and I cannot understand this at all. I don't dislike the Rolling Stones, they just don't do anything for me. One of my friends actually hates Morrissey and loves the Stones which is ridiculous as Morrissey is by far the greatest lyricist ever.

And does a 47 yr old Moz still sing this? No... Enough said!!! Strange how your perceptions of age change as you yourself get older!

I can't have a personal interpretation because I know Morrissey divulged the actual meaning. Its about Keith Richards and Mick Jagger.

a dig at the elderly rock stars who still think they can cut it and act like 20 year olds i.e the rolling stones

The worst song Morrissey ever wrote and recorded, enough said.

Doh... I thought it was about Morrissey himself, maybe written after a particularly nasty concert. I think I'd rather it was about him than the rolling stones, because it does seem that it's starting to fit for him as well, even if I think his new work is still great.

I love the way he says mascara. :)

I think he takes a shot at elderly folk singers aswell. Every song sounds like the one before, hence the stupid accordion on this song. I find it quite amusing to be honest.

I don't like this song purely because I think Mick Jagger is brilliant. Morrissey is great but Mick Jagger probably has more fans than he does.
