Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.
I was a good kid,
I wouldn't do you no harm,
I was a nice kid, With a nice paper round
Forgive me any pain,
I may have brung to you,
With God's help I know,
I'll always be near to you
But Jesus hurt me,
When he deserted me, but, I have forgiven you Jesus
For all the desire,
You placed in me when there's nothing I can do with this desire
I was a good kid,
Through hail and snow,
I'd go just to moon you,
I carried my heart in my hand
Do you understand, Do you understand
But Jesus hurt me,
When he deserted me, but, I have forgiven you Jesus
For all of the love,
You placed in me when there's no one I can turn to with this love
Monday - humiliation,
Tuesday - suffocation,
Wednesday - condescension,
Thursday - is pathetic
By Friday life has killed me,
By Friday life has killed me,
Oh pretty one, Oh pretty one
Why did you give me so much desire,
When there is nowhere I can go to offload this desire?
And why did you give me so much love in a loveless world,
When there is no one I can turn to
To unlock all this love?
And why did you stick in self deprecating bones and skin?,
Jesus do you hate me?
Why did you stick in self deprecating bones and skin?
Do you hate me?, Do you hate me?, Do you hate me?, Do you hate me?, Do you hate me?
I wouldn't do you no harm,
I was a nice kid, With a nice paper round
Forgive me any pain,
I may have brung to you,
With God's help I know,
I'll always be near to you
But Jesus hurt me,

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
I also like the mention of humiliation and condescention. I always think that all those people who think they're figured him out and who give him advice on what he should do (such as thoe who maintain he's gay and needs to 'come out' and then everything wil be peachy and swell ) are so annoyingly condescending.
But everyone whois single over a larger period of time and doesn't manage to keep it hidden from people, is likely to I be subject to humiliating and condescending attitudes shown by others. I know I have had enough of such experiences, and I'm not a celebrity, so I don't have to face it all the time. Oscar Wilde said that "Abstinance is the only sexual perversion." And in Margaret Drabble's novel The Millstone, the main character hides her lack of sex life because she feels that there is a shameful stigma nowadays, a scarlet letter A - only it once stood for Adulteress, but now is stands for Abstinance. I
By far the best interpretation I've read regarding this song.<br /> <br /> 'Maybe because you expect too much and you're not able to just have loveless sex or some half-arsed relationship that so many people have. Sometimes if you can only be content with finding real love, if you want all or nothing, you end up with nothing.'<br /> <br /> This happens all the time in the society we live in and it is unfair. I don't think it's in any way abnormal to want meaningful sex and 'real' love, rather than staged relationships which are not fulfilling.<br />
