Now I Am A Was Lyrics
Once I was complete and
Safe within your heart
Me - with a preference for
Making things worse
So, now I am a was
Now I am a was
I started at the top
And I worked my way down
Once I was so smugly
Foremost in your thoughts
Me - with a talent for
Making you cry
So, now I am a was
Now I am a was
I started at the top
And I worked my way down
So, now I am a was
So, now I am a was
I am a was
So, now I am a was
I am a, I am a, I am a, I am a,
I am a, I am a, I am a, I am a ...
Safe within your heart
Me - with a preference for
Making things worse
Now I am a was
I started at the top
And I worked my way down
Foremost in your thoughts
Me - with a talent for
Making you cry
Now I am a was
I started at the top
And I worked my way down
So, now I am a was
I am a was
So, now I am a was
I am a, I am a, I am a, I am a,
I am a, I am a, I am a, I am a ...

"I started at the top, and then I worked down". -Orson Welles
Wow...I didn't know his name was spelled with two L's. Thank you. Ya learn something new every day:) The man died in 1985, but I doubt this song predates the big guy. The lyrics are self-explanatory...although I'm not quite sure how Mr. Welles (see, two L's:) fits into this discussion:) I love Morrissey.

I really think that it's about the smiths and how he was always in johnny's mind but he ruined it all. but again, i'm a fan blinded by her love of the smiths.
