Let Me Kiss You Lyrics

There's a place in the sun for anyone
Who has the will
To chase one
And I think I found mine
Yes, I do believe I have found mine

So, close your eyes
And think of someone you physically admire
And let me kiss you, oh
Let me kiss you, oh

I zigzagged all over America
And I cannot find
A safety haven
Say, would you let me cry on your shoulder?
I've heard that you'd try anything twice

Close your eyes
And think of someone you physically admire
And let me kiss you, oh
Let me kiss you, oh

But then you open your eyes
And you see someone that you physically despise
But my heart is open
My heart is open to you...

He loves them so much that he wants to kiss them even if it means them having to imagine being with someone else. It's such a sad song...

I saw him live recently. He did this song, and as he sang the words "And you see someone that you physically despise" he opened his shirt and exposed his body...which is in no way despicable!

I don't think it is so much about him not being able to get the one he wants as it is about him hating his own body. He hates it so much that in order for him to be intimate with someone he wants that person to close their eyes and think of someone else.

Ha...I bet there are plenty of people (who actually think of Morrissey when they kiss someone else!

Creative song by a most creative artist, but it's sad. Obviously he doesn't like his body (an all-too familiar feeling) but he's hoping she will like him if she only imagines she's kissing someone else. The song's about what he sees in the mirror (his insecurities) and he has little faith in the woman he loves/likes. Sadly too many people are superficial and believe that good looks are forever and that they actually matter in the big scheme of life. Some of the homeliest men (by society's standards) have been the greatest guys I've known. One is a good friend w/ me on FB and he's had two gorgeous wives. His heart and soul are sexy/beautiful, and at least two women knew to look beyond his physical features. Only mature people should marry; there should be a test ;)

It may not necessarily be his body he doesn't like. It may be he doesn't like himself (his personality, etc) very much. I do love the song. Morrissey is incredibly talented. He's high up on my list of musical greats.

if you don't know what this song is about, then you shouldn't be listening to morrissey in the first place.

i mean come on... it's all about his self-deprecating and introspective point of views... he'd probably never ask a girl to kiss him, but here he uses this to further emphasize his miserablism.

@kankurou Probably about a hetero man TBH.

Well, I think that we need to differentiate Morrissey the person and his persona. I don't think Morrissey himself feels insecure about his appearance. He is, and has always been, a beautiful man and he knows it. It's just that he is mentally drawn to the idea of being the weak, the shy and the miserable. These are the characters that often recur in his songs. In the same way that the narrator in a novel doesn't need to be the author, a song can be half truth and half fiction.

I like this track because the meaning is so sad that it becomes uplifting. While many can sing about loneliness and desperation, only a few can deliver the idea this effectively. To say that you would rather be thought of as someoe else just to get a kiss from someone you love is to frankly accept your defeat as a person. It is a thought so painful to admit. I guess that is why the idea has never been used in a love song before, at least not the ones we normally heard of. My favourite line is 'I heard that you'll try anything twice'. It adds a nasty bite to the whole thing, ridiculing himself and his target at the same time.

Tee Hee Hee...my mum sent me off to another state for a band competition my 9th grade year with a red hot nightgown that read, "I'll try anything once, maybe twice." She had no clue what it implied:) And she had no clue we'd be drinking cans of luke warm Miller Lights that were housed in the toilet bowl;) Anyway, interesting interpretation. He's a wonderful songwriter and I find him incredibly sexy....always have. Then again, I like odd personalities...

I think he wrote this one to Nancy Sinatra, his neighbour.

"With "Let Me Kiss You" we're back to more subtle and muted territory once more, but also the album's biggest grower. Over a distinctly Marr-ish arrangement Morrissey once more does self-deprecating yearning like no-one else, craving attention while knowing he will be "physically despised". Once more, at least in song, age seems only to add to his beguiling neurosis. He may reside in California, but he still revels in doing that most un-American of things; celebrating life's losers." - Ben Granger
