That day we walked a little deeper
Breathless and too alive to sleep
You always said I was a dreamer
But now I know who's dreaming deep
You took me to the woods to show me something
But I'll turn my face away
You touched me in the shade
But then it got darker
Let's save it for another day
That day we walked a little deeper
Breathless, lost and too alive to stop
I always know you'd be the one to show me
A grove to lie in
And cry into the treetops
You took me to the woods to show me something
But I'll turn my face away
You touched me in the shade
But then it got darker
Let's save it for another day
Breathless and too alive to sleep
You always said I was a dreamer
But now I know who's dreaming deep
But I'll turn my face away
You touched me in the shade
But then it got darker
Let's save it for another day
Breathless, lost and too alive to stop
I always know you'd be the one to show me
A grove to lie in
And cry into the treetops
But I'll turn my face away
You touched me in the shade
But then it got darker
Let's save it for another day

such an amazing fricken song. the whole album blows me away.
sopaboxracer, can you include the monologue of that British woman in the song? It is very important, because it gives the true message of the song. It goes something like this:
you can't lose it it's just lost oh, its just awful not again IF YOU LOSE SOMETHING YOU CAN'T FIND IT AGAIN it's all in my head it's just lost now hello!?
I think the song is about how two people almost got together but they hesitated, and in that instant that chance was lost forever.
This is what is said at the very end of the song: Oh, it's a sea of leaves If you lose something you can't find it again It drops to the bottom It was my scarf I'll never get it again The best scarf I ever owned The most beautiful color blue It dropped you know it fell out of my hand Hello?
I think this song is about a short, young love, like a summer romance. You spend the short summer learning about one another, learning about love, and trying to open yourself up to someone else. But when the summer ends, so does the romance. You let the romance die along with the summer because you hesitated to make it anything more and believed you could wait for “another day.” Yet, years later you still remember this relationship.
There's something about that dialogue clip!
It's from Grey Gardens! It's Edie Beale speaking!
Wow!
That just made me love the Stars all the more. WOW.
The dialogue in this song is taken from the film Grey Gardens.
There's something about that dialogue clip...
I believe that this song is also about a failed love. I got the feeling these two were about to get much, much more intimate... That this never happens ends badly.
At least, that's how I thought it. I'd be happy to see others crack these brilliant lyrics?
you'll probably read this someday, you never failed to just show up when i least expected you to. i remember i walked you through the woods. where are we going? was the sentence of the day. i still don't know where the hell i planned on taking you, i just wanted to show you. we ended up on a highway. i guess there's some irony in that. i don't particularly like this song, but when i read the lyrics, i remembered this insignificant moment in my life that you happened to be in. i bet you don't even remember.
misslanie, that is a beautiful interpretation of the song
i agree, and i am definitely gonna go rent Grey Gardens right now :)
