I think this song is about having a pessimistic view on life - "Looking out across the next few days I can see, nothing Looking out across the next few year I can see, they're gonna go by fast" -and- "I'm not made of successful things"

And ultimately being so depressed that you isolate yourself from the rest of the world - "Looking out across my family members I know they miss me I know they must miss me Never had a lot of fun Better things to do around the house"

surprised no one commented on this song yet. it's one of my favorite Cat Power songs.

I'm agreeing with PantherPanther's post, this song has a theme of pessimism and even existentialism.

"Looking across the faces I've know I can see Nothing" Maybe the narrator has an inability to connect with others on an emotional level, or perhaps shows how the narrator has no meaningful relationships.

Excellent song, though.
