Where do the dreams of babies go
'Cause you know they're all so good
And they're also gone so fast
Keep all the guns at home
Help keep your momma safe
'Cause you know she pretty good too
Where is the night so warm and so strange
That no one is afraid
Of themselves
Here, pick up, dig, dig out those weeds
Out of your happy go lucky fields
Of such polluted thinking
Where do the rockets find planets
Where do the rockets find planets
Where do the rockets find planets
Where are the dreams of the babies going
'Cause you know they're all gone fast
Take, take as much as you can
'Cause you know it's going so fast
And you know it's so good
Where are the man that mounted so brave
That they do not explode over everyone
Here, pick up, dig, dig out those weeds
Out of your happy go lucky fields
Of such polluted thinking
Where do the rockets find planets
Where do the rockets find planets
Keep your guns at home
Keep your guns at home
Help keep your momma safe
You know she's all good too
She's pretty good
Where are all the dreams of babies going
Did you know they're all good
'Cause you know they're all so good
And they're also gone so fast
Keep all the guns at home
Help keep your momma safe
'Cause you know she pretty good too
Where is the night so warm and so strange
That no one is afraid
Of themselves
Here, pick up, dig, dig out those weeds
Out of your happy go lucky fields
Of such polluted thinking
Where do the rockets find planets
Where do the rockets find planets
Where do the rockets find planets
Where are the dreams of the babies going
'Cause you know they're all gone fast
Take, take as much as you can
'Cause you know it's going so fast
And you know it's so good
Where are the man that mounted so brave
That they do not explode over everyone
Here, pick up, dig, dig out those weeds
Out of your happy go lucky fields
Of such polluted thinking
Where do the rockets find planets
Where do the rockets find planets
Keep your guns at home
Keep your guns at home
Help keep your momma safe
You know she's all good too
She's pretty good
Where are all the dreams of babies going
Did you know they're all good

while i agree that the song seems to have an anti-war message, it was written well before the iraq war so it couldn't have been written specifically about it...also, isn't the line 'out of such polluted thinking', not 'predictive'?
underrated, too.
I think part of it is about youth passing by more quickly as you get older. Kind of like we're all rockets shooting aimlessly and infintely until something stops us and we find a life for ourselves amongst the rubble; like you have to take as much as you can while you're still young, and live your life to the fullest or the good things you've been dreaming of since childhood will pass you by before you finally crash into reality.
But I'm 22, so maybe it's just that time in my life and the song's warped itself to fit what I'm going through :)
I think this song is about being cocky and overly confident, and then finally getting kicked in the butt for it. Specifically it refers to time passing by and being more and more cocky over time. "Where do the dreams of babies go" refers to, in my perception, how babies are so innocent, but they will grow up and deviate from such innocence--Chan Marshall is wondering where those innocent dreams went, basically.
I think lan56 is right. How do we go from innocent babies to being adults with ambitions and aspirations? I'd like to add some more interpretation- have you ever seen those 'mobiles' (I think they're called) that are hung over babies cots (beds)? Rockets are a common style of them. So maybe the babies are dreaming about the rockets that are hanging over their heads as they sleep. But I wonder if there's a further meaning in using the word rockets in posing that more fatal-nihilistic- question when does the things that we do actually accomplish anything? So maybe an extension of the chorus would be- 'in what (ore who's) world do hopes and ideals of men and women ever amount to anything meaningful?' Or- 'Why shoot a rocket into space if it isn't going to find a planet?' and 'how can achieving this actually be meaningful?'
but then the talk of 'keep your guns at home, keep your momma safe etc' sounds like it might be about something more than just what I managed to interpret, so it's puzzle. Great song.
this song is so good and addicting
AGREED
One of her best me thinks Not really sure what its about though over indulgence maybe?
it's an anti-war song about the Iraq war. I think it's a very intelligent song, as well as being beautiful.
yeah, she says "POLLUTED thinking"
