I think this song is about the struggles of loving someone and not being able to be with them, for some reason or another.
This song is amazing, just like the rest of their songs. The lyrics are brillant, too.
I love his voice...it's kind of playful, you know what i mean? There's probably a better word for it lol but i don't have one.

the song is about falling out of love, wanting other girls, yet still wanting the best for that person. he wants that person today, because he's afraid of being lonely, but doesn't want a relationship anymore. he's too afraid of being tied-down. but he knows he's being an asshole, that all of this is bullshit, but he can't ignore it. if he could, he'd date someone new now, and then just go back to the original girl later. that's why he's telling her to run ahead, because she's better than him, because although he loves her, he just wants what's happening right now, not the future. he only wants today, what he can't have.

My take on this song is that their are two people in a relationship and the relationship is starting to have problems. The main character in this song doesn't know if he/she wants that person but it's too late because she leaves them and then they realize it's her that they wanted all along.
