You were once a sweet little girl,
So innocent and pure,
Your eyes were open and sure- anyone could look right in.
And while look closely- you gaze,
You looked up towards the sky,
but i watched your face drift away as the things caught your eye.
The magazines and media supplied you with their best protocol,
And maybe music television really is the devil after all.
But all i can say is I knew you before you were beautiful back then,
Before you grew up,
Before you gave in..
You dream of sharing your heart, Instead you share your bed,
And the Pain you feel doesnt leave with all the Skin that you have shed.
And you dream of bearing your soul,
Instead you bare more skin,
And you wear dark glasses to keep anyone from looking in.
The magazines and media supplied you with their best protocol,
And maybe music television really is the devil after all.
But all i can say is i knew you before you were beautiful back then,
Before you gave up,
Before you gave in..
But all i can say is i knew you before you were beautiful back then,
You could be beautiful again...
So innocent and pure,
Your eyes were open and sure- anyone could look right in.
And while look closely- you gaze,
You looked up towards the sky,
but i watched your face drift away as the things caught your eye.
And maybe music television really is the devil after all.
Before you grew up,
Before you gave in..
And the Pain you feel doesnt leave with all the Skin that you have shed.
And you dream of bearing your soul,
Instead you bare more skin,
And you wear dark glasses to keep anyone from looking in.
And maybe music television really is the devil after all.
Before you gave up,
Before you gave in..

hey thanks for adding this song, i found it too and i think its awesome. as for the meaning, i think it's pretty straightforward; about a girl who was shaped by media and what she thought she should be instead of who she really was. it kinda reminds me of dashboard confessional's "the places you have come to fear the most"
i love the line "you wear dark glasses to keep anyone from looking in"
I love thrice because their lyrics actually mean someting- whether it's straight forward, or deeper in meaning.
This song hits home- mainly because of a past love that i lost- that i still kinda talk to....i dont want to see her slip into a meaningless life that most people seem to be doing- including myself for a bit.. just like the last line of the song, i believe there is hope still to have a turn around back to goodness for anyone.
This is not a thrice song. Dustin Kensrue (the singer for Thrice) played this song by himself for a fundraiser event at our church. Dustin kicks ass in his band, but his acoustic stuff has always been my favorite.
ah- I didn't know that. His acoustic stuff is incredible, I think my favorite is the acoustic version of In The Years to Come. The song is pretty heavy with the full band, but somehow it still sounds incredible on the acoustic. Does anyone know where I can find some other acoustic Thrice? (or just Dustin, since that's what "Folk" is, and it's great)

This is the way I hear it.. Apparently the entire bridge was left out above?
You were once a sweet little girl, So innocent and pure, Your eyes were open and sure - anyone could look right in.
And i follwed closely your gaze, You looked up towards the sky, But I watched your face drift away - other things caught your eye.
You dream of sharing your heart, Instead you share your bed, And your heart beats empty and cold with all the tears that you have shed.
And you dream of bearing your soul, Instead you bare more skin, And you wear dark glasses to keep anyone from looking in.
All you want is to hear is the words, "Dear Baby, I love you," So you hike your skirt high and still 'Til their eyes are all on you.
And you drive in fast foreign cars, The color of your sin, You tint your windows to keep anyone from looking in.
You all should check out my tab.. make any corrections.. and try out my alternate ending :-D Any criticism or suggestions are totally appreciated.
