I Ran Away Lyrics
this song portrays one person's unwillingness to commit, and yet desires some sort of fruitful contentment from this whole affair. it is essentially a metaphor for 'running away from your problems', or in this case the person that is the embodiment of them. however, it is not you who believes that the person is the root cause but the society that is dictating you to believe it is. a very lose-lose situation, and a classic tale of the independent struggle. are you going to face your choice inspite of adversary in order to live at peace with yourself (and who decides if you really will be at peace), or will you just flake it off because no change can be brought anyway? please one, please many or please just yourself? i feel that is the big picture that the song is trying to get across, although this scenario can be applied to various people, relationships and life situations.
This song really hits me at a personal level (a lot of coldplay songs do that to me)... it actually relates really closely to a situation i've been in for the past three years.
To me, I Ran Away is about the singer who has an on-and-off relationship with a friend or lover. Whether or not they actually get together and have sex/hook up doesn't matter. The person he is singing about has really strong feelings for the singer but he doesnt want to commit, as someone has said before, or he has some type of hang up. He may or may not really like the person, but there is a feeling he has deep down that is disabling him from returning her feelings, or confirming them.
"I have your love on call And yet my day is not so full"
i think that this means that even though she loves him, and he might like her, or could develop feelings for her, he is always worried that something better might come along, or he hasn't experienced everything he wants to before he can be with her comfortably.
this hits close to home for me.. there's been this guy who i really adore, and he "loves" me, but every time something has come close to happening, i always skip out on him. i have his "love on call" but i always freak, or am interested in someone else at that moment, or something. eventually he will stop warming back up to me, i know it. it's not fair to him, and "i'm a fool to mess with" him because he deserves so much better, he really is an awesome guy. but there's always that one single hang up.
I think his is a great song from Coldplay, even though it's not on both albums. Shows that B-Sides can be pretty good too! To me it has a dreamy flow which takes you somewhere else.. but anyway, my view on the meaning of the song:
A guy that isn't happy with his current situation with his girlfriend. He feels himself trapped, uncomfortable, although he has nothing to be unhappy with. He wants to spit it out to her, but he just can't or won't be given the chance somehow. To everyone else, he's damn lucky to have that girl, but he doesn't feel that way. He has the need to get away from her, be free.
humm... i see it as someone always going back to that one special person. it's like this person wants to get away from this relationship, yet there's some sort of force that draws him back into it... ...it's this vicious cycle of breaking things off and getting back together...and all your friends want it to end so that you won't have to go through it anymore but you just can't break the trend.
...i dunno...
I'm more inclined to agree with sleepy_head. This person can't help but go back, even though they know the results end up heartbreaking.
this song touches me at this moment specifically for how perfectly it applies to the relationship I'm currently in (1 month! zoinks!) anyhoo...was wondering....don't know where you got the lyrics from, not questioning your sources....but i HEAR something different here -
"And when I heard you call to Come back to me "
I always come up with
"And when I hear you close I come back to you" I know I should stay...."
and "I wanna come on in, but my eyes are closed..." (projection much? lol)
re: "Why the fuck do people write shit like that?? what the fuck does that even mean???"
- The First Amendment, perhaps? the fact that the poster is a registered user and has every right to do so? This ain't the New York Times Magazine, my friend. Sit down and rest for a bit.
- My question: "why are people so mean to folks who are just trying to decipher and post song lyrics? WTF is that??"
heheh...love the "one, two, three, Will..."
holy crap..
WHY wasn't this on the album?!
I love this song. It's awesome
I usually twist songs a bit to reflect a personal situation of mine, and so to me it's a guy who still loves a girl that everyone else didn't think was good idea. So he tries to forget about her, but it doesn't work because he sees her too much..and is reminded of how much he loves her-despite how risky their relationship is, and so he tries to ignore her/preoccupy himself to stop his feelings.
This makes a lot of sense to me... I broke up with somebody just a few weeks ago. He's a drug addict and I'm a straight A student, so of course my dad hates him. But he was the first guy I ever really fell for, and even though all of my family and friends think he isn’t worth my time, I can’t help but miss him. Even though we’ve broken up, we still see each other here and there.
