Answer Lyrics
I will be the answer at the end of the line.
I will be there for you while you take the time.
In the burning of uncertainty, I will be your solid ground.
I will hold the balance if you can't look down.
If it takes my whole life, I won't break I won't bend.
It'll all be worth it, worth it in the end.
'Cause I can only tell you what I know,
that I need you in my life.
When the stars have all gone out,
you'll still be burning so bright.
Cast me gently into morning, for the night has been unkind.
Take me to a place so holy, that I can wash this from my mind...
The memory of choosing not to fight.
If it takes a whole life, I won't break, I won't bend.
It'll all be worth it, worth it in the end.
'Cause I can only tell you what I know, that I need you in my life...
And when the stars have all burned out,
you'll still be burning so bright.
Cast me gently into morning, for the night has been unkind.
I will be there for you while you take the time.
In the burning of uncertainty, I will be your solid ground.
I will hold the balance if you can't look down.

My wife and I used this as our first song at our wedding last June. We wanted something different instead of the same old stuff you always hear at weddings. It also had to be something that meant something to us.
We first started dating back in 94 when we were in high school and that lasted for 3 years before we went different ways. Her to England for school and myself to Alberta to have some fun. We always kept in touch over the years and were the rock for each other through some tough times. In Nov of 2003 we got back together and the spark was still there. So this song really spoke to us and summarized up alot of our lives together. Thats why we chose it.
I will be the answer at the end of the line. I will be there for you while you take the time. In the burning of uncertainty, I will be your solid ground. I will hold the balance if you can't look down.
~When one goes home to be with God again after He has waited with limitless patience for us to discover the truth about who we are and the nature of our soul-conscious connection to God, Earth, and our fellow Man. For in such trying, uncertain times solidity and balance can not be found from people but must come from a form of limitless love and light; God.
This song strengthens my connection to God and allows me to feel the 100% unconditional love that can only come from the innocent, altruism of someone who needs/wants nothing from you.
Great song, Sarah!
This is my favourite song for her latest CD. I love it!!!!! It so beautiful.
I saw her in concert in July of this year, and she said she wrote it about the gentle dedication her husband has shown her through the years.....
Beautiful song - I love it
This song to me definitely is about being there for someone you love and care about through even the toughest of times. Being their strength when they are weak and giving them hope. That even when times are tough between the two of you, that you won't 'break or bend' and give up, because once you get through it, you know you will be stronger than ever before ( It will all be worth it, worth it in the end).
I played this as a sort of dedication to my husband as our last song of the night at our wedding. I think it fit perfectly. It stated how I feel about marriage, that you have to be there for you partner through it all and fight instead of just giving up when things aren't going perfect. The only part I have trouble really figuring out in this song is the line before the final repetition of the chorus " ...take me to a place so holy that I can wash this from my mind, the memory of choosing not to fight" Was it some reference to initially wanting to give up and then deciding not to and being ashamed of thinking of "not fighting" for the relationship? Any ideas?
I think it's about waiting hopelessly for your lost love. About wanting to let go, but not able to. About staying in love with someone that you can never have, someone who generally didn't have your best interest in mind, but led you to believe otherwise the entire time.
That must be why I like this song so much

I believe that 'the memory of choosing not to fight' it's about those times when you feel that everything is lost and not even the person you love can cheer you up or do something for you... those are the dark times (the night has been unkind)...
But then you realize how much that person means to you and you feel like he/she's the one you love and the one that understands you completley and will always be there for you... and that person, even if you did't think it was possible, he/she cheered you up and helped you on your tough moments...
And then you ask him/her 'cast me gently into morning' which means you want to get out of those dark times and live happy, and 'take me to a place so holy, that I can wash this from my mind, memory of choosing not to fight...' which for me means that you ask that person... stay with me (the holy place... be beside that person), put me beside you and never leave me... with you I can be happy (wash from your mind, the memory of giving up living and loving) because with your beloved, you will live and love... and fight for that love if needed...
wow
I think, if you listen to it closely enough, maybe it's about a relationship with God? In her first paragraph or whatever, maybe she's singing from the perspective of God and Jesus. For example, "I will be the answer at the end of the line. I will be there for you while you take the time. In the burning of uncertainty, I will be your solid ground. I will hold the balance if you can't look down."
And maybe when she says "Cast me gently into morning, for the night has been unkind. Take me to a place so holy, that I can wash this from my mind... The memory of choosing not to fight." She's praying to him to give her a sense of peace, or to help her through hard times. Don't know if that's correct, But that's the great thing about music. It has different meanings for everyone.

"Twilight Eyes" I think you're right except for the Jesus part because while Sarah is NOT an atheist (sorry "SourBlue") she does not consider herself religious (i.e. Christ etc) but rather spiritual. As per her quote in an interview: Excerpted from a May 28th, 1996 SprintChat: Q: Hi, Sarah, I hope you won't mind a personal question. What religion do you follow? A: I don't follow any organized religion, but I do believe in the idea of god as a verb -- being love and light. and that we are part of everything as everything is part of us....
