World On Fire Lyrics
The world's on fire, it's more then I can handle.
I'll tap into the water, try and bring my share.
Try to bring more, more than I can handle.
Bring it to the table, bring what I am able.
Hearts are worn in these dark ages.
You're not alone in these stories' pages.
The light has fallen amongst the living and the dying, and Ill try to hold it in.
Yeah, I'll try to hold it in.
Chorus
I watch the heavens but I find no calling.
Something I can do to change what's coming.
Stay close to me while the sky's falling.
I don't wanna be left alone don't wanna be alone.
Chorus
Hearts break, hearts mend, love still hurts.
Visions clash, planes crash, still there's talk of saving souls, still cold's closing in on us.
We part the veil on our killer sun.
Stray from the straight line on this short run.
The more we take, the less we become.
The fortune of one man means less for some
Chorus
I'll tap into the water, try and bring my share.
Try to bring more, more than I can handle.
Bring it to the table, bring what I am able.
You're not alone in these stories' pages.
The light has fallen amongst the living and the dying, and Ill try to hold it in.
Yeah, I'll try to hold it in.
Something I can do to change what's coming.
Stay close to me while the sky's falling.
I don't wanna be left alone don't wanna be alone.
Visions clash, planes crash, still there's talk of saving souls, still cold's closing in on us.
Stray from the straight line on this short run.
The more we take, the less we become.
The fortune of one man means less for some

This is an incredible song about feeling overwhelmed by all the suffering in the world and being unable to help as much as she'd like. The video for this song is excellent. Instead of making a traditional video she spent only a few dollars on the actual video and donated the rest to world charities. The video can be viewed here: http://www.worldonfire.ca/
The song is excellent. Way better than most of the crap they play on the radio. She is making a very strong point on the video. Why do you need to waste your money on crap they have on Cribs. Why not use of that wasted money to help people who really need it. One 28 inch rim of a rapper's car could probably feed a village in Kenya for a year.
I am in agreement to the fact that this video brought me to tears. It is so horrible how much suffering there is in the world and seeing that there are so many celebrities who throw money away. Did anyone know that Usher buys his shoes and jeans and wears them only once? why not take some of that money and buy food, clean water, clothes, shelter, whatever for some children who need it?
I am preparing to be a mother soon myself, and knowing what kind of suffering is out there in the world and knowing it isn't getting better breaks my heart, because i know it's only going to get worse, and I'm bringing a life into this horrible place.
sarah always did have a talent with words and this time around she makes a strong statement that most artists could never dream of..the song is not so much about pity, but its about the basic love that exists in all people for humanity...i really want to meet the person who watches this video and feels that it says nothing..even if you can walk away realizing that the world suffers in a lot of places, then sarah just gave you the gift of knowing..and then from there, its really what you decide to do with what you just learned that will truly matter
My heart breaks watching the video. It gave me pause and made me think about how we have so much in America but often appreciate so little. The video is a good reminder to think twice the next time we spend an exorbitant amount of money on a designer pair of jeans or the like. The money that we spend on unnecessary items can be used in much more meaningful ways if we spared some of it for those suffering in parts of the world that we don't care to think about. I've always felt a tinge of guilt when I read about or saw people living in squalor while I live so comfortably but have never done anything substantial about it. I applaud Sarah Mclachlan for reminding me and hopefully others to live by the conviction of our morals. I live in a part of California were there is so much excess and materialism. A place where people have multiple homes and luxury cars but wouldn't spare any time or money for people less fortunate than themselves. It makes me think of a quote from a man who spent his fortune building homes for the indigent. When questioned by the reporter about his motivation to do what he did, he eloquently responded, "I don't think anyone should have a second home until everyone has a home." For me, that is true divinity.
Great song! I believe in the last verse she sings "the fortune of one man, means less for some." That's a much more powerful lyric.
agreed. you gave the right lyrics. it also makes more sense that way because i was told the song was about the president (among other things) - i think it not only addresses how we as a country ignore the needy in other countries, but how the government ignores the needy in their own country. it's good to have compassion for other countries, but we need to take care of our own people first.

This song couldn't be more important in a time where Americans spend so much money on themselves and don't really seem to care about anything else happening in the world. We went apeshit over Katrina and still obsess over it, but there has never been a similar outpouring for people in other countries. The only event even comparable would be the Tsunami of 2005.
Sarah's song is incredible, but is made so much more meaningful by her video. She wrote the song as a response to September 11th. I'm so glad she, as always, strayed away from the mainstream crap like Toby Keith, and addressed the real need to look after each other and to help those less fortunate.
Such an incredible effort. I will always love her for this.
the song is mediocre but the video is AMAZING! go sarah
This music video was so excellent. I literally cried when i saw it
More power to you Sarah! If more people were like you we would have a much better world. And well said Sleep, you took the words right out of my mouth.
