A Picture Of Dorian Gray Lyrics
When I buy my mansion
I'll invite the world to stay
So everyone can see
A picture of Dorian Gray
We'll sit by the river
Drinking lemon tea
With a thousand midget russians
In midget submarines
And you can come and stay (o-oh!)
And you can bring all of your friends (o-oh!)
And you can come and stay (o-oh!)
For a day
To see a picture of Dorian Gray (x2)
And I'll bring you to my mansion
To see my gallery
And there's lots of pretty pictures
All of them of me, all of them of me
We'll sit by the river
Drinking lemon tea
With tiny cucumber sandwiches
Made by a girl called Emily
And you can come and stay (o-oh!)
And you can bring all of your friends (o-oh!)
And you can come and stay (o-oh!)
For a day
To see a picture of Dorian Gray (x13)
I'll invite the world to stay
So everyone can see
A picture of Dorian Gray
Drinking lemon tea
With a thousand midget russians
In midget submarines
And you can bring all of your friends (o-oh!)
And you can come and stay (o-oh!)
For a day
To see a picture of Dorian Gray (x2)
To see my gallery
And there's lots of pretty pictures
All of them of me, all of them of me
Drinking lemon tea
With tiny cucumber sandwiches
Made by a girl called Emily
And you can bring all of your friends (o-oh!)
And you can come and stay (o-oh!)
For a day
To see a picture of Dorian Gray (x13)

I know Dorian Grey was a story by Ernest Hemingways, in which a man has a picture painted of him. By this he gains immortality because the painting ages instead of him, but if he ever sees the picture he himself will die. So im not sure what the song is about, but maybe this can help anyone. Still its a great song.
It was written by Oscar Wilde, not Hemingway.
and it wasn't if he saw the picture he would die...Dorian pretty much went crazy and stabbed the picture (also "stabbing" himself) and he died...a sort of suicide.
he didn't think it was suicide...he thought he'd be able to cleanse his soul. poor misguided bastard...
i think this song was more of a lark. kind of charming with pretty ideals: "With tiny cucumber sandwiches Made by a girl called Emily"
This a Television Personalities cover, just so's you know
the first poster has pretty much everything all wrong, please ignore it. the writer is definitely oscar wilde. dorian has a picture paints of him, and wishes that the painting will absorb all of his age, faults and sins. the painting grows more and more ugly, though dorian stays absolutely gorgeous even in the face of rampant drug usage, tons of food, tons of sex, tons of vioelence. at the end of his life he is incredibly ashamed of himself and stabs the painting, thinking it will make him real and give him all his sins. in reality, he dies as soon as the painting is stabbed and his servants find him, old and wrinkled and destroyed. the picture returns to the beautiful image it once was. i guess if he hadnt sinned or done so many bas things and then stabbed the painting, then it wouldnt have killed him.. but the painting was so violently ill and sinned that it was death. and you're right.. this is basically a fun, nonsense song on a lark with cute lyrics of sandwiches and rich life and mansions like dorian once lived
It talks about the life Dorian Grey lived on the front. Before he had his portrait painted he lived a life a noble luxury. And, as the painting neared completion he started turning toward the darker side of living, endulging in pleasures seen to corrupt the soul. Anyway, throughout most of the book he's generally aloof and does as he pleases, without care of consequence. I think that's what the song is about. But hey, I haven't even heard it yet.
