This is the tragic boy loves girl, girl just wants to be friends story. He obviously wants something more but she wants to remain 'friends' hence the clever title 'the f word' (great pun!) I think this song has some great lines: "she was in a love triangle, but it wasn't like my feelings weren't there to make it a square" "why debate, you think you can fit me in that annorexic space between love and hate?"
how does nobody comment? kind of a obvious song for cann ox, however, very powerful. about a guy that cant get his feelings to match with a best friend...
I dont know why nobody commented this one at first either. Its a very different love triangle song. You gotta feel the music along with the feelings you or anybody has felt in the same situation. If you cant do that, then its not really a song for certain people because of the original production by El-P and poetic lyrics from Vast and Vorduls chorus. This is one of my personal favorites. Love it.

amazing lyrics to a great song.
I don't think I'd be so in love with this song if it weren't for the lyrics. El-P has sharper beats on other songs, but it's hard to beat Vast's words.
theres something much more intelligent about their metaphors as well, instead of boring shit like "ima hit you like a speeding bullet" you've got "check this situation, I wore my lust like cologne she called it Obsession the background's black and white and we adolescents" using calvin klein to explain the situation...its like the opposite of consumerist mainstream rap
this song may sacrifice some cutting edge musical stylings, but i think i'll forgive it for the most complex and (let's not cut corners) true expressions of a situation that is so pervasive in more than just my life. for decades pop culture has been shaped by the mishaps in opposite-sex friendships, and while the beauty of this is its subculture, the message is as transient as ever. many people seem to think that "the" f word in this song is actually friends. i have always taken it to mean forever.

clearly to me this is him saying that forever sounded great when she said it... then iterating "the f word" just my take on the lyrics.

I definitely think that the f word is friend. "as she worded" prolly refers to the quote 'dont take it personal...,' rather than her actually saying 'forever.' the line 'and together forever just sounds fly' refers to the previous line 'what friends do, they die'.. (ie together forever just sounds fly, it isnt the case in reality). but then again, idk. they spit really fast so its hard to tell what goes with what. I just dont see any real motivation for forever being the f-word beyond that one instance which is unclear at best
