Better A Corpse Than A Nun Lyrics

Spread ourselves thin and wipe away the sweat of working though a thick skin
The easiest way to dodge is to ignore
Spit back and wait for more
Turn the pages of history yellowed, underlined and torn
No chance of tracing exactly how these terms were born
Rewrite plan of attack
Find a number with a bullet
Fellate the right minds so a suit won't pull it
Label the lie
Label the lie
Though it may be better than sitting above your higher horse
running backwards through ten years of the same course
I'm done asking why we look ahead when we face the wrong way
Better to swollow my intentions and watch the past slip away

by far the greatest song to ever come out of Hot Cross. if anyone has any idea what this song happens to be about that's be awesome.

Well, I don't know, but Billy seems to like using years in his lyrics (Running backwards through 10 years of the same course in this song; 16 years, too many with collars thrown to the wind in "Throw Collars To The Wind, etc...). The first thing that came to my mind with this song is how we're being lied to about so much (Label the lie) and that our history, as well as our future, is being completely torn apart by other people. The last line (Some guy said that the last line of almost any Hot Cross song would sum up it's meaning; this is proving to be true...) says "Better to swallow my intentions and watch the past slip away", which sort of ties into the song title (Better A Corpse Than A Nun, which I'm guessing means it's better to be dead than be controlled by other people for the rest of your life). I suppose in short, the song is about giving up. I don't know...

the first bit about the skin seems to mean that its time to be ourselves and forget about living a lie. this could tie in with "label the lie" about labeling people.its like categorizing people by how they dress before you even converse with them and get to know them. i dont know theres my 2 cents anyway.

i think its about things being predertmined, for instance, everything you do is already determined, and no matter what you do youre just doing what you were already expected to do. like in that tom cruise movie about "pre-crime" and nuns = precogs. but thats just an opinion of mine.. i liked a few other people opinions. to be honest i find a couple of others to be more understandable than my own... but its not what a song means to others, its about what it means to you

this is a really great song but i think its far from being hot cross' best work. when i first got this ep (a month and some days before its actual release, mind you) i didnt like the songs as much as their other work, than it grew on me immensly, but still cant beat cryonics.

actually in the lyrics its "...and watch the past drop away", not slip away

My favorite line from this song -

Turn the pages of history yellowed, underlined and torn No chance of tracing exactly how these terms were born

The way it's sang (almost spoken) and just how well-written it is are awesome.

im a new fan of hot cross and i dont exactly know much about the band, but i think the song may have something to do with religion or government. "Turn the pages of history yellowed, underlined and torn No chance of tracing exactly how these terms were born" these could mean that the past is obscure and we dont really know what happened or what God wants from us (if my interpretation bugs u because of their Christian meanings, i dont think theyre Christian because they have "Cross" in their name, its just how i think cuz im Christian. my faith is just important to me so i think like this)
