Ghost Wiring Lyrics
What happens at home since I've gone away?
Needles drop soft and sharp
And the leaves gently sway
Low ceiling moves in and circles the bay
Rain makes the trees
Sound that's counted so many days
So many days
Wet shoes drag you off to school
Shoes that never dry
Crows curse and beat their wings
Why can't you be smarter girl
Lift up your face
Don't feel sorry for yourself
Always wait for you
Your ghost is a lightshow at night
On the Grand Cooley Dam
We're always watching you
At the drive-in tonight
Who will they comfort now
Since I've gone away?
Needles drop soft and sharp
And the leaves gently sway
Low ceiling moves in and circles the bay
Rain makes the trees
Sound that's counted so many days
So many days
Shoes that never dry
Crows curse and beat their wings
Why can't you be smarter girl
Lift up your face
Always wait for you
On the Grand Cooley Dam
We're always watching you
At the drive-in tonight
Who will they comfort now
Since I've gone away?

I've been trying to figure out the whispered words at the beginning of this...sounds like the word hospital is in there. Can anyone help? Btw, this one is called "Ghost Wiring," rather than "Ghost Writing."
I think she's saying "I have to go to the hospital".
To me, it sounds like, "You haven't lost me."
I love how gentle her voice is when she sings, "Why can't you be smarter, girl? Lift up your face."
Don't feel sorry for yourself Always wait for you
should be--
Don't Feel sorry for yourself highways wait for you
It sounds to me like, "Home is waiting for you".
It sounds to me like, "Home is waiting for you".
I can't make out the first part, except maybe an "I" and an "h", but I definitely hear something like "haughst" followed by two compressed syllables that sound something like "ptl".
I've slowed down and enhanced the clip using my meager audio editing skills, if anyone's interested: http://wooshck.org/Audio%20Files/ghostwiringevp.mp3
This makes me wonder: do you think that she used a real EVP sample for this? Because it's freaking me out in ways that man-made creepyvoices usually don't.
“Rain wakes the trees” ... not make the trees. “The river is watching you” ... not we’re always watching you. “Highways wait for you” ... not I’ll always wait for you. This song is about Neko Case missing / being homesick for her home state of Washington.
