We Got The Whip Lyrics
Long days and nights you fought for truth
Gotta hand it to you
Uprising paid for in blood
Only to lose
We're gonna hang you up
You've got balls but
We got the whip
We got a better bomb
We got the whip
We got the whip
We got a better bomb
We got the whip
We got a better bomb
We got the whip
We got the whip
We got a better bomb
Heartache and strife is all you've known
A slave since your youth
And only one life to bargain with
And ration is due
We're gonna string you up
You've got balls but
We got the whip
We got a better bomb
We got the whip
We got the whip
We got a better bomb
We got the whip
We got a better bomb
We got the whip
We got the whip
We got a better bomb
Fearlessness in the face of death
Pain with a smile
Braving the fight until the end
I know I will never be like you
We got the whip
We got a better bomb
We got the whip
We got the whip
We got a better bomb
We got the whip
We got a better bomb
We got the whip
We got the whip
We got a better bomb
Gotta hand it to you
Uprising paid for in blood
Only to lose
We're gonna hang you up
You've got balls but
We got a better bomb
We got the whip
We got the whip
We got a better bomb
We got a better bomb
We got the whip
We got the whip
We got a better bomb
A slave since your youth
And only one life to bargain with
And ration is due
We're gonna string you up
You've got balls but
We got a better bomb
We got the whip
We got the whip
We got a better bomb
We got a better bomb
We got the whip
We got the whip
We got a better bomb
Pain with a smile
Braving the fight until the end
I know I will never be like you
We got a better bomb
We got the whip
We got the whip
We got a better bomb
We got a better bomb
We got the whip
We got the whip

yea, it's talking about how other countries can oppose the US as much as they want to but in the end it doesn't matter who's right, only who is more powerful
are these guys serious?? if you were to know anything about Rage's political standings you'd know they are always fighting for the less fortunate. just because de la Rocca's gone doesn't mean they're not political. eventhough Cornell said he wouldn't sing songs taht are blatantly political...looks like he did it.
anyway, the song is saying that "yeah, i look up to you because you've been fighting all your life. you fight for what you believe in and i admire that. you only have one life and you use it to fight until the end. But, basically you're fcuked cause i live in a country that doesn't care about you, no matter how muhc i do. i want to put you on a pedestal while my country is gonna string you up. and you can't do anything about it cause we got the better bomb. you've got balls but it doesn't matter cause we're more powerful." the song is definitely not pro capitalism, and it sure as hell ain't a positive song about how powerful the US is. just because you can kick the sht out of someone doesn't mean you should.
That's De La Rocha, not Rocca, like Mo Rocca...
I don't think it's about US oppression. You kids these days are too quick to say every political song is about <i>Amerikkka</i>.
I think it's more about all sorts of civil wars in many countries. Think like Somalia, where there are people fighting with sticks and stones against warlords who are way more heavily armed than they are.
I think Cornell did stick to his guns, of not getting too political, because it's a song about the state of other countries, not what the US is doing.
It's not "and ration is due," it's "admiration is due."
I think it's about US oppression against blacks, now, in the 20th and 19th century....not in other countries but here in America. I think it's kind of like a US responding to blacks as if the narrator was America, not Chris. Listen to the lyrics its saying: hes saying things like hanging people and whipping them and them being slaves since they were born..etc
Maybe, but there's plenty of other countries where slavery is still practiced. I don't think it's about America at all though.
you could be right, i guess it could be about any oppressive nation that practices slavery.
look at it vauglyely its about someone or something that has an obvious advantage over something else, 'you have more heart well iv got more power'
If you think about it, the song starts with the oppressor speaking, acknowledging the people's struggle...then the people respond with "we got the whip - we got a Better bomb". BETTER, being the key word. See people don't have bombs, rulers do. The people now have a "better bomb" than The oppresors to fight back. Bomb as in Unity through Music, fellowship, integrity, respect for individual freedom and common values.
Just a thought.
True. This song applies to all oppressors, Globally. We've all been slaves at some time and tbh we are all slaves today, what with neverending taxes, unjust laws & regulations which is submission by force.

And yes, they have the balls to enslave us, so you're damn right - we're gonna string them up!

Of course it is about USA and other countries on the other side - preferably countries that you can just bomb away with a minimum of legitimacy to cover the attack up. “We got a better bomb”, is sure as hell not about any civil war. It is about technical superiority over moral superiority: “Braving the fight until the end I know I will never be like you”.
