Cashing In Lyrics

How do you do? I don’t think that we’ve met.
My name is Ian and I’m from Minor Threat.
You know I tell them, usually, to be at their best.
Catch me in town after every set. Yea, yea.

We don’t care. We don’t pose.
We’ll steal your money. We’ll steal your show.
I got your money and I feel fine.
A couple of dollars and really good time.
Well, you know I’m gonna be alright
with the money I’m making off of you tonight. Sucker!
We don’t care. We don’t pose.
We’ll steal your money. We’ll steal your show.

Know something? The problem with money is I want more.
Let’s raise the price at the door. How much a night, 3,000 or four?
You know we’ll make a million when we go on tour.
Yeah, that’s the way I’m gonna think about it.

We don’t care. We don’t pose.
We’ll steal your money. We’ll steal your show.
And that’s the way it is, man…Dog eat dog.
I’m taking a walk on the yellow brick road.
I only walk where the bricks are made of gold.
My mind and body are the only things that I’ve sold.
I needed the money cause I’m getting old.
Right? That’s the way it goes isn’t it? Yea…
We don’t care. We don’t pose.
We’ll steel your money. We’ll steel your show.
Yeah, we don’t care. We don’t pose.
We’ll steel your money. We’ll steal your show.
That’s the way it is in this world.
Right? Isn’t that right? Boy…you had us pegged all along…damn.
There’s no place like home. So, where am I?

I read in our band could be your life that Minor Threat broke up in 82 or so because Lyle wanted to go to college, but then Lyle decided that college wasnt for him and so they reunited and started playing shows. however, the scene didnt like them reunifying for some reason. so they wrote this song in response

Yeah, that's the story. It's an attack on how militaristically self-righteous the whole DCHC scene had got, so much so that some writers at the time actually said they should have reformed but with a new name and ditched their old songs, which is just rediculous.

I mean 'ridiculous'

They only ever perfomed it once (at their first show after they re-united) and after it ended they threw loose change into the audience.

I always thought this song was about commercialism and how it messes bands up. It actually tells a story, too. At the beginning, the guy is all nice and down-to-earth, but by the end he doesn't even realize how messed up he is, all for a few (thousand) dollars.

It seems like people were making the accusation that MT was only reuniting for the money. This song seems to be Ian's response to that.

I think GetItRightPeople is correct. Definetly about commercialism and the terrors of it. Great Minor Threat song.

Btw, best use of a ryhme: "How do you do? I don’t think that we’ve met. My name is Ian and I’m from Minor Threat." It's almost too catchy.
