Sunshine Lyrics

I opened my eyes
and watched the sunshine
it had been out all night
to relax and unwind

there will come a time gigantic
waves will crush the junk that I have saved
when the moon explodes or floats away
I'll lose the souvenirs I made
la la la

I lay down on the grass
and let the insects do their thing
she covered me with wings and
held my head and said 'poor thing'

there will come a time gigantic
waves will crush the junk that I have saved
when the moon explodes or floats away
I'll lose the souvenirs I made
la la la

Even though I prefer their faster-paced work, I absolutely love this song. I agree that it could be about existence, but I always saw it as being more about giving up memories and old loves and friendships and the like, but being comfortable in doing so. Sort of along the lines of Bob Kaufman's "I Have Folded My Sorrows", I guess. It's an optimistic perspective, I think, but a realistic view on the messes we make and the things we drift away from. That's just my take, though.

If you're a person who has difficulty with change, this will hit a soft spot, because it reminds you that life continues on and you can't possibly keep all of your past memories of pain and love and joy that are precious to you and you've collected over your life. Life and the things in life that come to pass at times are heavy or alot comes to you at once, and one day, you look up and realize things have changed because you're trying to hard to hold on to past things that you don't realize what has come to pass already. ...Then you slow down at a point and realize you forgot about precious memories or hurtful things that you wanted to hold on to in sense of the feelings they gave you, but now and again, it will continue to happen. It is painful, even though they are mere feelings and thoughts, mental, emotional souvenirs. If you're like me, you have certain spots, or areas you visit more than once when you have been hit by a memory or feeling and you want to wind down, and this area/spot you continue to come back to, reminds you of so much. Depressing but sometime it's the only way to think clearly or get peace when you need to sort out thoughts, situations.

Mm, too right there brother, Mark's music is magical in an inspring and depressing manour, Daniel johnston and Mark both managed to achive it. Hope you are still listening as your post was a good few years ago.

Stop talking to yourself and go listen to some M83: Reunion. It's another big hit in Brazil today. Or do you plan to hide behind music all day whe you can be boinking that clueless baby again. Hurry before she leaves in three months or however long she can tolerate your manipulation; lies; and fake charm. Sorry, I wanted my last say before I go out the door today. And, Man, does it feel good!!! Creep is your song; sorry it took until now for me to realize it.

Pretty morbid in my opinion. He's imagining what death will look like when the time comes.

The sunshine at night is the light at the end of the tunnel. He reflects on the idea of how all his thoughts and memories and everything tangible or intangible will cease to matter. I think he finds some sort of existential comfort in just lying there and letting nature take its course. I hope Mark did find that comfort.

One of Sparklehorse's best songs! I think is about the impermanance of our existance.

some of sparklehorse's weird style bugs me, but this is one of the songs they got right down to the t. great sound, pretty mellow and introspective. to me it's about how everything is temporary without exception
