Save It For A Rainy Day Lyrics
The lead singer is in his 50s, so the "older woman" could well be a love interest.
im kind of confused about the meaning of the song. i think its about an older woman, but not someone he likes or loves. more like a mom or grandma. the part "all the miles youve been through" explains that she is old. and the line "theres another part to play" that could be meaning, dont pretend youre young when have another role to play, like grandmother or mom. and the whole hairdo and makeup part is about how she is trying to hide how old she looks. but i dont know i could be wrong, thats just my opinion
I always pictured Marina as a woman, living on the street, and the writer taking poetic license weaving a story in his head about her, as he stood at a bus stop. Maybe he met her...maybe they always caught the same bus. The hook also hints at irritation with her...maybe she was off her meds, but still struggling to maintain her dignity, and he felt for her. The hook hit his head, and he built the rest of the song around her.
Short version: it's about the human condition
This song says, stop and remember that no matter what you've done there are people out there that will always love you. When the other things get you down, love will pick you up.

Marina is depressed that youth has passed her by, and the singer is encouraging her to get over it and realize that she still has value (another part to play). She's supposed to save her sadness for a rainy day. Life is too short to be depressed all the time.
There's too much sunshine to worry about the bs. Don't let the bad blind you from seeing the good.
"Don't look so sad, Marina There's another part to play"
"Don't look so sad, Marina There's another part to play"
A little girl is upset she didn't get the part in the school play. But the singer, with age and wisdom, recognizes how trivial the problem is.

I think this song is about a girl (possible and older woman) who this guy loves or likes and he is describing her and she is sad and he is saying that she shouldnt be sad, save it for a rainy day.
