Back On the Road Again Lyrics
Please don’t hate me mama for what I’m about to do
But the good times we’ve had together are just about now through
Please don’t misunderstand me, I hate to see you cry
But I think that it might look better if I told you now goodbye
I’m back on the road again, it’s time I leave you now
And maybe I’ll see you next time, that I’m around
Until then I hope your happy baby and good times come your way
I’m back on the road again, I’m on my way
Well I’ve loved you since the day I met you and I’ll love you till the day I die
But we both know the life I’m living and we both know the reason why
That I’ve got to leave you mama and I’ve got to leave today
But you know that I’ll see you next time that I come through your town to play
(chorus) ooh, bye-bye baby
(solo)
(chorus)
But the good times we’ve had together are just about now through
Please don’t misunderstand me, I hate to see you cry
But I think that it might look better if I told you now goodbye
And maybe I’ll see you next time, that I’m around
Until then I hope your happy baby and good times come your way
I’m back on the road again, I’m on my way
But we both know the life I’m living and we both know the reason why
That I’ve got to leave you mama and I’ve got to leave today
But you know that I’ll see you next time that I come through your town to play

My favorite REO song by far! I think this song is about the groupies he meets during a tour. He falls in love with a woman in that particular town they're playing in, but after the concert is over he has to break the news to her that he's leaving and going to the next stop on the tour. But he says to her "see you next time that I come through your town to play." They both love each other, but they both know that he is a rock star and he has to move on, and he's gotta leave today. On the next stop on the tour, it'll happen again and he has to continuously go through the same thing over and over. That's what I always thought it was.
@richie I believe this song was written about Bruce Halls mother. Bruce's whole family was very musically talented. Their mother was supportive at all their venues. I also believe it was Bruce n his brother Jeffrey together who wrote it when they we young.

I think tihs song is about someone having to leave home to avoid 'the man'- almost like in Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. He says at one point "we both know the life I'm living and we both know te reason why" definitely implying that it's one of those 'elephant in the room' sort of things. REO writes a lot of music about people communicating or trying to, much of it one-sided, and this is the same way.
@apettythief I don't know what you are talking about. It is obviously a song about leaving a town and leaving that city's groupies.
