I always thought he said "turned you offer down" not upper. I might be wrong though.
I hear it as "turned your offer down" as well.

I love love love how they use words strictly for how nice they sound. It doesn't have to mean anything, but at the same time it doesn't not make sense. Also I love the way Colin's voice shakes on that second 'light'.
Pretty much this song is saying "Well...yeah, I left you, it hurt you, and maybe it wasn't the nicest thing to do, but you sort of have that effect on people. This is the crankshaft of your car. I just got a little caught up in things. Doesn't the light feel nice and thick today? You're a little fucked up, also."
