When the album was originally released, there was unconfirmed rumor / speculation that this song may be about the band's previous singer, Edwin. The band would play an important show, and unlike the rest of the band he would for one reason or another not perform to the best of his ability, whether due to lack of skill, preparation, personal impairment, or otherwise. Edwin then left the band, or they split mutually, so that he could pursue a solo career.
"Remember why you're not along" could be a direct comment to their former singer; "You're passing time alive / And medicated" could be a jab at their lead singer's one "hit" with his solo career, the song "Alive"; "You've run away from something sure" - I Mother Earth's popularity was taking off just before their split.
However, publically IME's members have said nothing discouraging about Edwin in any way, so this will only remain speculation.
Im surprised there are no other comments! I am not completely sure what this song is about, but it is one of my fav IME songs! :)
