They All Surrounded Me Lyrics

I gathered my thoughts and sat out on a trail
into the woods, wearing sword and chainmail
I started to whistle and walk to the beat
that my heart played constantly on repeat

The nightfall was chilly, I slumbered right where I fell
dreaming up adventures cause' I had none to tell
Upon the morning, I woke with a start
for the beasts had blackened the horizon

They all surrounded me, they all surrounded me,
that's when the giant dragon jumped over the hill
and he said
He said, "no, no, no, no, no, no way sir,
no, no, no, no, no, not today sir,
you won't surround me, you can't surround us."

Oh.....

They all surrounded me...
They all surrounded me...
They all surrounded me...
They all surrounded us...
That's when the giant dragon jumped over the hill
and he said
He said, "no, no, no, no, no, no way sir,
no, no, no, no, no, not today sir,
you won't surround me, you can't surround us."

Eisley is definitely my favorite band EVER. Amazing song. But I think it's about more than just a knight and dragon... if this makes sense, I've always thought it was about finding your inner courage. The knight obviously doesn't have much experience (dreaming of adventure though I had none to tell), but when put in a difficult situation (they all surrounded me) he discovers something inside himself that he didn't know he had (the dragon) and defends himself. I don't know if this is correct, but that's what I love about Eisley songs- there are so many interpretations, and it can mean whatever you can relate to most. :)

i actually think its more about a child and his/her imagination. Like they go into the woods (or backyard) with their sword and chainmail (every child imagines they have something like that) and then they fell asleep dreaming up more of their adventures, and then they wake up cause the beasts had blackened the horizon (could be their parents towering over them telling them that they have to stop this daydreaming and grow up) and they almost give in but then the giant dragon jumps over the hill (their imagination kicks in and they decide that no one can surround...

This is just like medieval dream vision poetry. The knight falls asleep, dreaming of the imaginary adventure he'll have. Alas, we don't know what happens when the knight truly wakes up...

It also reminded me of the Jabberwocky from Lewis Carroll, though there is no slaying of any beasts. ;)

I really really like this song. I think the girls have done a great job. "They all surrounded me, they all surrounded me, that's when the giant dragon jumped over the hill " really medieval.

I think this songs about this knight who is traveling in the forest but hasent really been on any big adventures or anything and after he woke up... "for the beasts had blackened the horizen" I always thought of this part as a bunch of evil shadow creatures surrounding him and right before they attack the big white dragon comes to the rescue and saves the knight. Splendid. Simply splendid. :)
