their most personal song, it was a really shitty time in Matt's life.
Those lyrics are litteral. In an interview Matt said he was sitting in his room wasting away and thinking about how someone you love can hurt you so much. When my girlfriend left I cried along with this song many times so I can tell you those lyrics capture the feeling exactly. Matt will always be my favorite lyricist and singer.

I think like many of his songs there is a lot of reference to religion. I figure he grew up surrounded by catholics and probably felt a lot of rejection. This could could be a reference to anyone close including gos himself hence the Patricide title. In general a loved one deceiving and treating us terribly to the brink of suicide
