The Beginning And The End Lyrics
Long you both laid in the sun's yellow stare
On the edge with eyes rolled back the waves were calling him
As he teetered on the edge
The waves were calling him
He had seen it, felt its might, bent under
Washing away
He thinks of you
Everything slows
Light flashing through
The water flies
Over his head
You are me now
As you lay on my bed
The water flies
Over his head
You are me now
As you lay on my bed
This is what he'd always known
The promise of something greater beyond the water's final horizon
On the edge with eyes rolled back the waves were calling him
The waves were calling him
He thinks of you
Everything slows
Light flashing through
Over his head
You are me now
As you lay on my bed
Over his head
You are me now
As you lay on my bed
The promise of something greater beyond the water's final horizon

Volcanic vocals, you'd find me breaking everything around me, eyes bulged and face ready to explode from pressure and blood. Sentimental and dance-inducing, deviant dancing, flustered, sweating, enlightenment, ascension.
wow, can't believe no one made comment on this one, such a good opening song for the album. amazing!!!
Ass-kicking song and a great opener for an album.
Although its somewhat to hard to figure out what the words are...
This was bleeping fantastic last night! What a great way to open a show which was the entire "Oceanic" album. They were on amazing form.
I saw them last night in Edmonton when they opened for Tool. They didn't play this song, but they were absolutely unreal live. Never thought I'd get to see them play live, but I'm so glad I did.
As for this song, I think it's about suicide. I mean, the lyircs pretty much spell it out. Even if not suicide, it's definately about death or a transition of some sort.
Well, Obsidanhex is correct because Aaron has said that Oceanic tells a convoluted tale involving love, incest and suicide by drowning. The meaning of the album in simple terms so that this opener is telling "The Beginning And The End."
This is one of my favourite songs ever! I love the distorted female vocals during the bridge!
And about the meaning I think walruspancakes is pretty much right.
To me this feels like a love that didn´t end as the person refered in the song wanted it to end. I imagine him laying in the sand with waves coming and going, while he thinks of the times that he used to do that with his loved one. He feels the water and he knows its power. Since the water is all that he has left now that she is gone, he lets himself go with "The promise of something greater beyond the water's final horizon". Basically commiting suicide. Aaron said Oceanic has women and suicide has major subjects. That final line is a perfection definition of suicide because it is basically the promise of something better on the otherside. Anyway, this is just my interpretation. Amazing song btw
