This song was considered and left off both Ten and Vs. I believe the version on Lost Dogs was an instrumental with the lyrics recorded sometime after 1997, judging on Eddie's voice and the way he growls when he sings certain parts. The version that was from the early years is an acoustic version on the Vs/Vitalogy reissue.

Okay, I probably didn't make that comment clear enough. I meant that the person who decided it shouldn't be on Vs needs to be court-martialled. Although that's a bad idea because it was probably someone in the band.
I think you are the one who should be court-martialled. The song is off Lost Dogs, a double cd of b-sides, rarities etc. This is an awesome song, one of my favourites off Lost Dogs, I wish it had made it to Vs. The first verse of this song is probably my favorite lyric, period. Anyone going through a tough time that is apparently endless can relate to it. Great image. Kudos Ed.

Actually this was an out take from Ten, they messed up the Lost Dogs liner notes and they incorrectly state that Hold On was an out take from Vs... it's since been corrected on Pearl Jam's website...
