I don't mean to dwell
But I can't help myself
When I feel the vibe
And taste a memory
Of a time in a life
When years seemed to stand still
I close my eyes
And sink within myself
Relive the gift of precious memories
In need of a fix called innocence
When did it begin?
The change to come was undetectable
The open wounds expose the importance of
Our innocence
A high that can never be bought or sold
Savor what you feel and what you see
Things that may not seem important now
But may be tomorrow
Do you remember when
Things seemed so eternal?
Heroes were so real...
Their magic frozen in time
The only way to learn
Is beware and hold on tight
I close my eyes
And sink within myself
Relive the gift of precious memories
In need of a fix called innocence
When did it begin?
The change to come was undetectable
The open wounds expose the importance of
Our innocence
A high that can never be bought or sold
Symbolic acts - so vivid
Yet at the same time
Were invisible
But I can't help myself
When I feel the vibe
And taste a memory
Of a time in a life
When years seemed to stand still
And sink within myself
Relive the gift of precious memories
In need of a fix called innocence
The change to come was undetectable
The open wounds expose the importance of
Our innocence
A high that can never be bought or sold
Things that may not seem important now
But may be tomorrow

The song's meaning is about the loss of childhood innocence, and how life progresses onward.
I don't mean to dwell But I can't help myself When I feel the vibe And taste a memory Of a time in a life When years seemed to stand still
hes thinking back to when he was a kid, back when time seemed to stand still. when you get older, time flies by. hes saying hes in need of a fix called innocence, as we all are.
When did it begin? The change to come was undetectable The open wounds expose the importance of Our innocence A high that can never be bought or sold
youre unable to tell or remember exactly when you lost your innocence, its gradual as you get older. being innocent is like a high, "that can never be bought or sold." then he says to savor what you feel and see because what may not seem important today may seem important tomorrow. basically, we take things for granted every day, and if it were gone tomorrow, we would miss it.
@mrclouds Summed it up perfectly.

I can't believe only two people have commented on this...kind of shows how bad mainstream taste can be ;) heheh
Anyways, this song, from my perspective, means to go through life completely regretting having missed any times that have gone past, and all the while not doing anything to change the future. The character who's point of veiw this song is from constantly dwells on thoughts of a life that he/she once had ("I don't mean to dwell, but I can't help myself"), which was lost to some event in their life that stole their innocence ("In need of a fix called innocence").
Why did you comment on the song if you didn't have any important opinions to share besides that you don't like the lyrics? You could have at least left an enthusiastic flame or something...
This song is about growing up.
About how we are not as easily entertained and life isn't so simple and fun.
Our experiences aren't as new so life can become dull. Some of us try to find that euphoria again but that feeling sometimes never comes back.
Chuck said on the live in L.A dvd that this song is about life
Yep. It's pretty obvious too, anyway.
Symbolic is definitely among my favourite albums. \m/
There's nothing to dislike. If you're a decent human being you can relate to the lyrics. I get the chills every time I hear the riff to Symbolic.
As I understand it... he wrote this song when he found out he had a brain tumor... Hence the reflective thoughts...
Symbolic acts, so vivid Yet at the same time Were invisible
Could they be the acts of love we display to our loved ones? family members? Just asking
@maxime1157 Basically the song is about childhood and the loss of innocence
