Zero Tolerance Lyrics
In the dark of night...
Abusing a portion of light
While others are sleeping
And some are escaping
A serpent spews out fantasy-
Unjustified blasphemy
That cannot be condoned
It must be strange to not have lived
So far into existence
This is not a test of power
This is not a game to be lost or won
Let justice be done
Chorus:
There will be zero tolerance
For the creator of hallowed intentions
There will be zero tolerance
Fate is your deciding God
Karma comes crashing down
Leaving a very deep scar
Exposing a door to the
Source of a verbal whore
Machines supply the altar
Where virtuous lives are sacrificed
It must be strange to not have lived
So far into existence
This is not a test of power
This is not a game to be lost or won
Let justice be done
Abusing a portion of light
While others are sleeping
And some are escaping
A serpent spews out fantasy-
Unjustified blasphemy
That cannot be condoned
So far into existence
This is not a game to be lost or won
Let justice be done
There will be zero tolerance
For the creator of hallowed intentions
There will be zero tolerance
Fate is your deciding God
Leaving a very deep scar
Exposing a door to the
Source of a verbal whore
Machines supply the altar
Where virtuous lives are sacrificed
So far into existence
This is not a game to be lost or won
Let justice be done

this song is awesome... my favorite of Death's.
The song is about how in any religion, there is "zero tolerance" for any disagreement or difference - despite the fact that most religions have very loose rots and are quite questionable.
The song also makes a point that "virtuous lives" are wasted by dedicating their lives to these religions. It also hints at how religion is quite destuctive at the openings lines.
Sounds like this might be a song denying God's existance. The lyrics in the chorus are "There will be zero tolerance/for the creator of hallowed intentions/There will be zero tolerance/fate is your deciding God."
In other words, perhaps Chuck is saying that God doesn't exist, and fate, where you end up after you die, is the only one that matters. The lyrics are kinda cryptic, as in most songs on here. That's why this website has been created, to interpret the song's meaning.
not really in my opinion because he kept religous things out of his music but put political themes in his lyrics and i think that there is zero tolerance against people who misjudge the teachings of prophets who just passed down the message of peace and start wars over it with comments like:"May God be on our side (... when they kill people ????)"

@R0TuSon Crystal Mountain is very much about religion. Chuck didn't need to be openly hostile towards it, he could make some clever criticism about the social aspect of religions, not necessarily faith. I don't think this one is specifically about gods, there are some references though. On the other hand i would definitely exclude the possibility he was a christian as you and some authors seem to suggest (for what purpose, once could ask): he was likely an atheist or agnostic, he said in well-known interviews he didn't know anything about the afterlife and believed this is Hell, some people...

And i agree with him.
This is probably very helpful. Spark Magazin did a short interview with chuck, exactly answering this question briefly. Enjoy ;)

I've no idea what this song is about but i do know that the second solo (Bobby Koelble) is some fantastic work.
That is what the song is about? Wow! It is also one of my favourite's. Thank you for explaining, Floop.
Actually its more about corruption in all walks of life, such as churches, governments--whatever the case the others that are sleeping are people that are oblivious, and the others that are escaping are finding out the truth. There will be zero tolerance to those who have bad intentions toward humanity, ultimately.
"This is not a test of power This is not a game to be lost or won Let justice be done"
Best words, right there. Really catchy and it sums most of what the song means.
This is on of my favorite tracks ever. I can't even describe how great and imaginative the guitar solos are in this song. I think the lyrics on this song are the most symbolic and can be interpreted 1000 different ways.
the first verse reminds me of the Nazis in the 1940's...in the dark of night Hitler would spout his hate while the gestapo (spelling?) would round up those who didn't agree (While others are sleeping And some are escaping A serpent spews out fantasy)
I dunno but the music is awesome and Chuck was a genius :)
