Was I Right Or Wrong Lyrics
Like a restless leaf in the autumn breeze
Once I was a tumblin' weed
Like a rollin' stone, cold and all alone
Living for the day my train would come
I never cared for school or any golden rules
Papa used to always say I was a useless fool
So I left my home to show them thay was wrong
And headed out on the road singing my song
Then one sunny day. The man, he looked my way
And everything that I dreamed of, it was real
Money, girls and cars; and big long cigars
And I caught the first plane home so papa would see
When I went home to show 'em they was wrong
All that I found was two tombstones
Somebody tell me please was I right or wrong
Oh, such a sad song
First I got lost, then I got found
But the ones that I love are in the ground
Papa I only wish you could see me now
Take a listen papa
Whoo, I learnt how to play my guitar
Gonna be a superstar
First I got lost, then I got found
The ones I love are in the ground
Won't you tell me please was I right or wrong
If there's any way you can hear what I say
Papa, I never meant to do you wrong
All the money, girls and cars. And all the words and all the cigars
Papa, I just want you to know they couldn't take your place
When I went home to show 'em they was wrong
All that I found was two tombstones
Somebody tell me please was I right or wrong
Oh, such a sad song
First I got lost, then I got found
But the ones that I love are in the ground
Somebody tell me please was I right or wrong
Once I was a tumblin' weed

this is a great song about growing up and bein a rock and roll star. definitly an underrated jam. its one of my favorite skynyrd songs
wow, its unreal that only one other person has left a comment for this song! This song is obviously about the road to becoming a rock star, and leaving behind all the nah sayers, and in this case, their parents being amungst them. They hit it big and in hopes to make their parents proud they fly back home, hoping to surprise and impress, but come home to tombstones, And they want to know if they were right or wrong in leaving their parents behind, to find success.
Yeah, the song is straightforward, but it's still very emotional. It encapsulates a lot of small-town thinking: 'that boy ain't gonna amount to nothing', and the drive it gives some people to prove them wrong. Ronnie chafed against the strictures of his home town - apparently he was always in trouble - and it's safe to guess he left town with a big chip on his shoulder: 'I'll show those hicks'. This song captures it so perfectly - and the heartbreak of coming home to... nobody. He asks 'was it worth it'? The emotion is palpable.
Great song, one of the deep cuts that's rarely mentioned, but is just as good as, maybe better, than SHA or Simple Man. c.
What a SAD song, but beautiful at the same time. I think I love it, and it is the first time that I listen to it.
