TwentySomething Lyrics

After years of expensive education
a car full of books, and anticipation
I'm an expert on Shakesphere, and that's a hell of a lot
but the world don't need schlors as much as I thought

Maybe I'll go travelling for a year,
finding myself, or start a career
i could work with the poor, though I'm hungry for fame
we all seem so different, but we're just the same

Maybe I'll go to the gym, so I don't get fat
all things are easy, with a tight six-pack
who knows the answer, who do you trust
I can't even sperate love from lust

Maybe I'll move back home, and pay off my loans,
working nine to five, answering phones
don't make me live for my friday nights,
drinking eight pints and getting in fights

I don't want to get up, just let me lie in
leave me alone, I'm a twentysomething

Maybe I'll just fall in love, that could solve it all,
philosophers say that that's enough
there surely must be more, ooh

Love aint the answer, nor is work,
the truth deludes me, so much it hurts,
but I'm still having fun and I guess that the key,
I'm a twentysomething and I'll keep bein' me

I'm a twentysomething, let me lie in,
leave me alone, I'm a twentysomething

I especially enjoy this song becuase I feel that it is about the life of an average twenty year old. The twist to it is the fact that Jamie Cullum is more of a Jazz artist. It is very rare to have a twenty year old listening, and enjoying jazz. I also love some of the lyrics including: "Maybe I'll go to the gym, so I don't get fat / all things are easy, with a tight six-pack." This is kinda of showing that to be accepted in this world you have to do certain. I just find it entertaining that this singer is so differnt, unique and quite frankly amazing and is singing about being average. Ha.

I love this song. I am a twenty-something and I'm in the middle of that "quarter life crisis" when you have to decide what the heck to do with your life...so many options but no open doors...This song is written in a funny way, but it is still deep and has a lot of meaning to me. I really really dig Jamie.

I love hjow he can put hummor into a song, and yet let the meaning run very deeply. It's about someone in their twenties wondering what the hell do with their life. There are so many options, yet which to choose?

i like that sense of doing what you want 'let me lie in' even though you've been moulded to do what other people want 'years of expensive education' in the end its about the music isnt it? thats what he wants to do, thats what he does shakespeare is a memory, he's living his life.

Thing song reminds me of, um, me. Minus the bits about going to school -- post-secondary whatnow? But everything else: yeah, it's me.

Really really post twenty something;) Good song. Hope it keeps you company when the bubble gum chewers can't hold up their end of an intellectual conversation.

I think you dished out your ABC GUM ONE TOO MANY TIMES. HEARD IT ALL BEFORE. BUT NO ONE SPEAKS AS ELEQUENTLY AS YOU DEAR:)

If only you were bright enough to be embarrassed. So much for IQ's. Yours is in your pants. At least something is on the large side. Goodnight.
