A Spoonful Weighs a Ton Lyrics

And though they were sad
They rescued everyone
They lifted up the sun
A spoonful weighs a ton

Giving more than they had
The process had begun
A million came from one
The limits now were none

Being drunk on their plan
They lifted up the sun

Forcing it off with their hands
The trapdoor came undone
Above our heads it swung
The privilege had been won

Being drunk on their plan
They lifted up the sun

Yelling as hard as they can
The doubters all were stunned
Heard louder than a gun
The sound they made was love

I can't believe no one's said anything about this song, other than that it's their favorite (who can blame him? Not my personal favorite, I think either Feeling Yourself Disintegrate or The Gash are my favorites at the same time).

I think this is obviously just a continuation of the previous song, detailing that the scientists that were racing for the prize actually achieved it, and lifted up the sun, rescued everyone, and so on and so on. A spoonful of their medicine weighs a ton.

God, this CD is too perfect.

I shouldn't have laughed at that reference, inhumandecency, quittit. :P

I think it's a simple song about overcoming the odds. It starts off saying how its impossible to lift up the sun, and how it wasn't even a million to one chance. But then it says how these people went and lifted up the sun to rescue the people. It's just about doing something that nobody had thought was possible before.

I think it's a total sci-fi song where Wayne's imagined an apocalyptic scenerio of the sun closing in on the earth. Scientists carry out a theory that saves mankind. The public are skeptical and ready to meet their maker when to their amazement, they discover that the scientists theory was correct and humanity is saved. The "Spoonful Weighs a Ton" reference may be in regards to the density of the sun (as inhumandecency described). Perhaps the title is something the skeptics would say "It'll never work! You know how heavy the sun is? A spoonful weighs a ton!"

The intro piano sets the mood for this one. Once again, going along with this album, It's obviosly very emotional, "and though they were sad, they rescued everyone". This reflects putyting aside your personnal behaivor to help people out, and once you do that..........."the limits now are none!!!"
let your love sound loud!

"A spoonfull weighs a ton" is a stellar reference. Certain stars, late in their life cycle, will crush in on themselves with such awesome gravity that they overcome the weak nuclear force and form a gigantic atomic nucleus. These "neutron stars" are the most dense matter ever discovered. A spoonfull does weigh a ton (actually, ten million tons!). However, our sun is nothing like that. It's more dense than normal gasses on the earth, but a spoonfull of the sun only weights about a pound.

What other things are that dense? I thought that was as heavy as could be...

@inhumandecency it can't be a star, because then the lyrics would be, "the mass is a ton."

Science.
