Sweet Song Lyrics

What am I to do
Someone here is really not happy
Put myself on a line
It seems I never got through to you
So I wean myself off slowly
I'm a darkened soul
My street's all pop music and gold
All our lives are on TV
You switch off and try to sleep
People get so lonely
I believe, I believe, I believe
Everything's out to sea
I believe, I believe, I believe
I believe that's the way it should be
I hope you feel the same
Everyone is dying
Stop crying now here comes the sun
I didn't mean to hurt you, no, no, no
It takes time to see what you have done
So I wean myself off slowly
I believe, I believe, I believe
Love is the only one
I deceive, I deceive, I deceive
I deceive 'cause I'm not that strong
Hope you feel the same
And now it seems that we're falling apart
But I hope I see the good in you come back again
I just believed in you

It is about a relationship but it also seems more universal than that especially when he says "people get so lonely" I think everyone can identify with that. This is in many ways the highlight of Think Tank.

"Our lives on T.V. You switch off and try to sleep" To me this is about Damon upset about losing Graham also the "I didn't mean to hurt you" bit makes me think that as well. Although it was never confirmed whether Graham left the band at his own will or not I think this song is definatley about Damon and Graham. It is a beutiful song none the less!

Not meaning related, but a great (possibly unintentional) shout out to The Beatles by referencing Here Comes The Sun and then immediately following it with the main refrain of John Lennon's Jealous Guy ("I didn't mean to hurt you")

what it means to me: a relationship turned sour. a friendship perhaps (that's how i think of it because i was having a rough time with one of my friends when i first heard this song and REALLY listened to it) about reconciliation (sorry i can't spell. i blame lack of funding to public schools) or a reconciliation that the singer hopes will happen because they want everything to work out

The friendship could be that between Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon who features only on the last track on Think Tank Battery in your leg. Coxon left Blur in October 2002, before most of Think Tank was recorded.

Probably one of the best songs by blur. Obviously about graham leaving the band. If you want TRUE Emo music. Check this song out.

Top notch production and arrangement.

Damon absolutely wrote this about Graham. I can't source it but he said at one point soon after Think Tank came out that he was looking at a photo of Graham when he wrote it. Awwww. Damon DOES have feelings!

yeah, i think it is about graham, but ALSO.... bear with me here....cocaine. "put myself on a LINE, wean myself of slowly" i think maybe it's about being really depressed over a friendship falling apart, and doing coke to feel better.

It's natural to jump to the conclusion that it's about Coxon leaving the band but words like "I didn't mean to hurt you " , "stop crying", "I believe love is the only one. I deceive cos I'm not that strong" and "I wean myself off slowly" ( I would suggest this means weaning himself off a person he has been in a relationship with) make it seem like a romantic relationship to me. It sounds like he's left her and sent her into a dark depression. Whatever the story, this for me is possibly the greatest, most tender, bittersweet, human song I've ever heard. Probably my favourite song ever.

I totally agree with owly_jr, also because of the "It seems I never got through to you" part.
