Caravan's lost
In the sun and the dust
No one loves you
When you are lost
Yeah I'm a clown
Trying to pull my whole world down
I believe I was strong
But you are the one
And when it comes, you'll feel the weight of it
The weight of it
The day will come when you'll get away from it
Away from it
Sometimes everything is easy
Sometimes everything is easy
La la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la
I try to quit
But my heart won't buy it
I got family
The caravan comes back for me
And when it comes, you'll feel the weight of it
The weight of it
And the day will come when you'll get away from it
Away from it
Sometimes everything is easy
Sometimes everything is easy
La la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la (repeat)
In the sun and the dust
No one loves you

Yeah I'm a clown
Trying to pull my whole world down

La la la la la la la

Commiting yourself to doing something and finding it hard to meet that commitment. When I listen to this song I think of the merchants travelling across the desert on camels, Caravans!
I think it's more specific than that. I think it' about starting a family, and realizing that you don't have the strength to finish what you started.

"And when it comes, you'll feel the weight of it" can be understood to mean if mr. Coxon quits, his partner will feel the effects.

I agree with the interpretation above.
As a side note, going travelling across the desert on a carvan would be hard times.
I agree, but doesn't anyone think that the whole caraven thing has connotations of falling off 'the wagon'? Whatever wagon that happened to be. Maybe it was about Graham Coxon and his drink (was it drink?) problem. I don't know- it could be about anything I suppose. Cigarettes, alchohol, even a person?
This is my favorite Blur song by far.
Sorry- caravan typo there.
To me, there's a whole level of the song talking about falling in love. Being cynical and lost, and yet when you fall, you'll feel the weight of it.
And yeah, it's easy. You won't have to do anything for it.
English isn't my first language so I'm maybe wrong but here what I get from the song :
I think that when he says "Caravan's lost" he is talking about some guy (maybe himself) who got separated from the caravan. Here the caravan is a metaphor of the life of society, that you got to fit in and move along with it as it evolves or you'll be lost. The fact that you got to fit in put you in some kind of pressure (the weight of it), some fear to be alone and lost, and it always comes back to you ("the caravan comes back for me")
But again this is the first idea that pops out of my head about the song, I didn't really thought it through.
theres a song by the housemartins called caravan of love http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-uUS6bSOP4, maybe he's referencing it in this song
Perhaps Pan is right. I think this song is simply about Damon's feelings towards Graham's leave but also about the relationships between the band members. 'Caravan' refers to the band , or family (in this case, Graham, Alex, and Dave).
Damon is eager to get back the good times when "everything was easy" maybe. Damon feels he's been and still is a "clown" to everyone, but he says "I believed I was strong, but you are the one" (the one is Graham, but could also be all the members of the band). I really think he's trying to say that he wants to get the band back together but..
"And when it comes, you'll feel the weight of it, the weight of it, and the day will come when you'll get away from it"
Personally I think Damon is saying that even if they never get back together, it won't matter anyway because life carries on and people change. That's just my interpretation of it.
And although this seems sad, in my opinion, this song is quite uplifting.
