Loose Tongue Lyrics

Remember my loose tongue
Forget what I just said
I'd crawl over broken glass
If we could start again
Before our plans were made
When the world was young
The house is falling down
Because of my loose tongue
Shouldn't say so much
Shouldn't talk so loud
No sooner on your lips
Than it's all over town
In all our given days
How many gone to waste
A good man has been hung
Because of my loose tongue
Your skin is changing its hue
Your guard is coming down fast
Looks like someone I knew
Uncovered happiness at last
All the wagging tongues
Too much information
In the future now
Under massive doubt
The papers on the street
Get trampled under feet
And they settled for a princely sum
Goodwill is coming down
And when it rains
Your well is full

It's been said that a couple of the lyrics relate to the breaking up of Crowded House 'The house is falling down because of my loose tongue' has to do with the 'tongue in the mail' mailing lsit on which rumours abounded and carless slips of tongue regarding the future of Crowded House by neil in interviews.

My tongue slips often, and this song reminds me to be careful what I say to whomever. I like the guitar riffs on this track...bass is good too.

An awesome song with great guitar and bass riffs. I agree that this is partly about the break up of Crowded House. I think it's also a criticism of the media in general.

My Interpretation

Not to be maudlin, but "a good man has been hung, because of my loose tongue" likely refers to the suicide of Paul Hester, Crowded House's original drummer who hung himself shortly before the band was to reunite for the first time.

Considering this album predates Paul Hestor's suicide by 8 years (1998 - 2006), I really don't think so.

Good will is coming down And when it rains Your well is full

You shouldn't ask me, you shouldn't ask me, If you want the real story, you shouldn't ask me, You better find someone else to get the house key, You've no admission to his personal life, You know the mans walking on the edge of a knife,

You tail's getting longer, Your nose keeps growing, And after some time you forget what you're knowing, Had a fleeting encounter with a psycho sycophant, And now he's feeling like a kicked out tin can, You've got the poor man nailed to the floor, But that's not enough and you want a bit more.

He's only halfway through his life He's only used up all his time

Lyric Correction

This song's meaning is exactly what it say's on the tin. A lot of Try Whistling This's songs do deal with the break up of crowded house, but written under another guise or story or Neil's use of metaphors which can have multiple and hidden meanings. It's quite a cleverly written album.
