Lullaby Lyrics

share my cup
tie me up
never apart
break my heart

go to sleep
wound me deep
be at peace
make me bleed

do not harm
twist my arm
lie with grace
smash my face

hiss the ground
drag me down
stop the noise
smash my toys

how does it feel without your drugs?
sing you a lulaby
how does it feel without my love
sing you a lilaby

Cover art for Lullaby lyrics by Blackfield

Man, this song is freaking wonderful. I love the way Steven has put words to the typical feeling of wanting to be loved, but at the same time being extremely masochistic. Damn, I hate that feeling. But noone's ever put words to it like Wilson did. Gotta love that man.

Furthermore, the lyrics are quite incorrect. Correct version:

"Share my cup Tie me up Never part Break my heart Go to sleep Wound me deep Be at peace Make me bleed

Do no harm Twist my arm Lie with grace Smash my face Kiss the ground Drag me down Stop the noise Smash my toys

How does it feel without your drugs? (Sing you a lullaby) How does it feel without my love? (Sing you a lullaby)"

Written down exactly like that. I'll be submitting correct versions of all of the incorrect lyrics of Blackfield. In the comments. Sorry for being an ass. ;)

strangely, i always imagined the adult showing violence to the child as being the mother. i do not know why, this has just always been the impression i get. maybe because it is even more heart breaking if it is the mother, rather than the father?

This is about the mother, on drugs neglecting and abusing her child, partly because of being under the influence or drugs, and partly because she is twisted and doesn't know how to raise children. I really doubt it would be about a father.

From SW's wiki page on Vapour Trail Lullaby - According to Steven Wilson: "I found this on a CDR of demos from around 2000, and it's an early version of the song that was later recorded for the first Blackfield album with a much more stripped down piano and string quartet arrangement. Here I was obviously going for something a bit more epic (the full version lasts about 16 minutes, but this is the first 6). After Rush called their album "Vapour Trails" I changed the title of the Blackfield version to just Lullaby."

I'm not sure if it's about child abuse. I feel it's about 2 people who care about each other (couple, family members or even friends) in which one of them is a drug addict and is trying to quit, resulting in unstable behaviour. Switching between caring and violent...

My Interpretation
Cover art for Lullaby lyrics by Blackfield

I think this song is about child abuse, with the references to violence and smashing his toys....and the title of course relates to a child. The overall sound of the song to me sounds kind of innocent and helpless also. =]

Child abuse, for sure...I can't stop thinking about some drunken father beating up his own kid. Damn, this is the most fucked up song i've ever heard. Yet, it's beautiful.

Child abuse for sure. Father is high or drunk or something and he breats his kid. Strangely beautiful song.

I always felt that Childline / NSPCC should run their TV ads with this as the soundtrack - it's quite harrowing listening to these lyrics over such nice music.

WAIT this is by the Dixie Chics?!?!
