Tisbury Lane Lyrics

She greets the day with her hair wet
She asks them to vacate the building
Because she's got a plan they don't know yet
And if it goes wrong, there'll be no one to see

Do do do do
Do do do do
Do do do
Do do do do
Do do do do
Do do do

If she could just get the word out
God knows she's trying
They're watching her with eyes closed
She's always stuck with the old route
Does anyone knock when they barge in to beat her down?

Will you come back?
It's all she wants to know
She knows she's part of the problem too
Could she let it go?
It'd take a miracle
So that's what I'm praying for

No one can know just how she feels
She won't use the phone, she's too tired to pick it up
She's going back to the old way
She sits in the classroom to learn with the others

Do do do do
Do do do do
Do do do
Do do do do
Do do do do
Do do do
Do do

Please don't give up when it's easy
Don't you know that me and Jesus will cheer you on?
He's the only one that will be constantly everything you need

Will you come back?
It's all she wants to know
She knows she's part of the problem too
Could she let it go?
It'd take a miracle
So that's what I'm praying for

Yeah
She lives on Tisbury Lane

although Dave did say himself the song is about his step mother.. i can only come to one conclusion about the song. To me, it reminds me of Mandy Moore's character in " A Walk To Remember", I cant remember the character's name but she was always eclectic, a little strange and different from everyone else. She didn't conform to the usual. She was a religious girl and tried to show people the light in Jesus Christ, but all they did was mock her for not conforming. This reminds me of the sad and lonely girl in "Tisbury Lane". She's a girl with a lot to prove.. one that wants to be accepted and wants her word to be heard. She's also "...part of the problem too" because she's been rejected so many times that it is hard to let anyone in. She's trying to let people know her idea's , about her love for jesus maybe. the line where it says "watching her with eyes closed" is probably the people who see her and don't have the guts to help her out.. she's probably so sick of everyone beating her down, that she doesnt care anymore..

what a deep song.. sorry if that's a bit scrambled.. it was hard to put words to how i felt..

i think this is a dark song disguised with a really mellow tune. it seems to be about a girl who wants/is going to commit suicide, and the only person who suspects anything is the singer. ("Please don't give up when it's easy Don't you know that me and Jesus will cheer you on? ")

The girl seems depressed because she lost 'him' (whoever 'him' happens to be), and feels everything would be better is he came back. the singer wants her to be happy, so he's hoping 'he' comes back (even though it is so ulikely that it would 'take a miracle').

no one else really knows about this except the speaker, because she goes on with her everyday life and doesn't act sad at all. ("She's going back to the old way She sits in the classroom to learn with the others")

at least, that's what i got out of it.

For me, it is almost the exact same thing as "you lied oh my" suggested, with some twists...

It directly applies to something I've been going through for the past 6 months.

In my case, this applies to a girl who tried to commit suicide over a boy. Hardly anyone understands her. She hides everything and her massive scars (maybe 50 on each arm that are brutal looking, and others on her legs, sides, and breasts - def not scratches). She wanted him to come back (even though they never met - they had an internet relationship). I prayed she would forget...

I WISH I LIVED ON TISBURY LANE!!!!

I think it's about the girl being pregnant, and the guy left her. "Because she's got a plan they don't know yet And if it goes wrong, there'll be no one to see" I think is about her planning to do some sort of at home abortion attempt .and if it goes wrong and she dies then no one will be there to see. and also it will spare her the 'embarassment' of people knowing she's pregnant. "If she could just get the word out " Is her wanting ot tell someone but she is to oashamed or what not. "Will you come back? It's all she wants to know She knows she's part of the problem too" Is her wanting to know if the guy will come back. and that she knows she can't blame the pregnancy on him because she's at fault too..

That is what i got from it... anyways... good song...
