The Lisbon Girls, Oh The Lisbon Girls Lyrics

This empty chest.
This hollow throbbing.
This empty shell. Will help you sleep.
And your name will come in time.
For now take a number.

This is a surrender skin
This is hanging on
Sing the high notes, touch his hand.
This is giving up
Faces on! Faces on!

We are pretty when we are faking.
I am such a liar when I smile.

Son comes home to take solace in his mirror
(the stains of God's loving embrace still ripe around his throat)
Only to find he is no longer human

Father don't you cut the rope I want to die here
Open eyes, dimmer, a chandelier

This empty chest.
This hollow throbbing.
This empty shell. Will help you sleep.
And your name will come in time.
For now take a number.

A chandelier.
Not another breather.
The sirens must flock to a new destination.

SHE hung HERSELF from the chandelier. This song is about The Virgin Suicides. Both that movie/book and this song are great.

It seems like it's not exactly about the virgin suicides. Yea thats where the title is from and the whole idea of suicide but it seems unlike it to me.

I just read the virgin suicides, and then this song, so i can definately relate them together.

this will probably only make sense to people who have read the book; but:::

Mirror: this is a surrender skin (Mary had a mirror that she looked into for hours every day) In another room: this is hanging on The sirens know what they are in for. (beacuase of how many times they had been there before) Sing the high notes, touch his hand. This is routine. (the routine of Lux having sex on the roof)

We are so pretty when we are faking. I am such a liar when I smile. Look up and never smile again (they were sad because of Cecelia.)

but what about the parts when it talks about a boy?? any other opinions?

I've read the book and I see what you mean but I realy don't think the song was wriiten and focused on the virgin suicides. I agree that it must have inspired the song and writing but, its definitely not all written about it. "Son comes home to take solace in his mirror (the stains of God's loving embrace still ripe around his neck) Only to find he is no longer human" That part doesnt really have anything to do with the virgin suicides.

THE VIRGIN SUICIDES!

The lyric is actually "Father dont you cut the rope, I want to DIE here." Therefore easily stating its about suicide. Whether or not its EXACTLY from the Virgin Suicides is beyond me, but it does show relation to it.
