Chin Up, Cheer Up Lyrics
Took a walk with you
In the shadow of my shoes
Danced around the broken blues
In the dirty summer rain
Moonlight on the cars
Parked in single file at bars
With a thick and rosy smoke
Waving its busted hand
Bringing you down, can't bring you down
Bring you down, can't bring you down
Bring you down, can't hear the sound
Run through the river and into town
Pretty little moon with it's head hung down
Chin up. Cheer up.
I took a walk with you
And I busted up my shoe
In an old yellow canoe
Out in Hollywood
You called the police
But they didn't care the lease
On your place had run out
Your landlord straightened his hat
Bringing you down, can't bring you down
Bringing you down, can't bring you down
Bringing you down, can't hear the sound
Run through the river and into town
Pretty little moon with it's head hung down
Chin up. Cheer up
In the shadow of my shoes
Danced around the broken blues
In the dirty summer rain
Moonlight on the cars
Parked in single file at bars
With a thick and rosy smoke
Waving its busted hand
Bringing you down, can't bring you down
Bring you down, can't bring you down
Bring you down, can't hear the sound
Run through the river and into town
Pretty little moon with it's head hung down
Chin up. Cheer up.
I took a walk with you
And I busted up my shoe
In an old yellow canoe
Out in Hollywood
You called the police
But they didn't care the lease
On your place had run out
Your landlord straightened his hat
Bringing you down, can't bring you down
Bringing you down, can't bring you down
Bringing you down, can't hear the sound
Run through the river and into town
Pretty little moon with it's head hung down
Chin up. Cheer up

Another top tune from a brilliant performer. In 2002, Ryan said "It's bluegrass meets The Smiths. Kind of. The chord changes are Johnny Marr-and I'm still studying that guy. I'd been in England just before I wrote it, so it must be about someone unnamed from England who is a better songwriter than I am. You know who I mean."
Thank you. It's an excellent track.
Thank you. It's an excellent track.
uh, its a love song, i dont want to ruin it by analyzing it too much, but ill tell ya, this song is so beautiful. there is imagery ... like " danced around the broken blues, in the dirty summer rain" which i believe is the best line from the song. it seems like he really really loved this girl, and they were reckless.. lovely. Story. I cant get enough of this song.
It's Ryan's most feel-good song, I think. Easily my fave from "Demolition".
this song's about Morrissey...it is also an awsome song about shoes and yellow canoes...i love Ryan Adams, i hope this song will get morrissey's chin up a bit.
