Beat Surrender Lyrics

Beat surrender -
Come on boy, come on girl
Succumb to the beat surrender
All the things that I care about (are packed into one punch)
All the things that I’m not sure about (are sorted out at once)

And as it was in the beginning, so shall it be in the end
That bullshit is bullshit, it just goes by different names

All the things that I shout about (but never act upon)
All the courage and the dreams that I have
(but seem to wait so long)
My doubt is cast aside, watch phonies run to hide
The dignified don’t even enter in the game

And if you feel there’s no passion
No quality sensation
Seize the young determination
Show the fakers you ain’t fooling
You’ll see me come running
To the sound of your strumming
Fill my heart with joy and gladness
I’ve lived too long in shadows of sadness

The Jam's final single was always going to be number 1 in Britain, but this song seriously deserved that position on it's own merit. This rock-soul hybrid absolutley thunders along with a great double-tracked call and respond vocal from Paul Weller.

"You see me come running, to the sound of your strumming!"

Beat Surrender?

Always thought this was a fairly obvious Jam farewell song. Pretty sure it was common knowledge that the band were splitting, before the song was released.

What's wrong? I like this song. There's horns and all that, but let's face it, Weller was diversifying as we all know.

It was a nice farewell from The jam, kind of dancing whiel tears are flooding from your eyes. Might make a half-decent funeral song I wonder...?

yeah, but now that we got out of the way, what's this song about? this is one of the songs that I love, but have absolutely no clue what it's about

oh yea sivilla, god forbid the jam show any musical diversity right? idiot

tuley75 - so as a fan of the Jam who happens to think from funeral pyre onwards the group lost its edge and did songs that were more suited to the stle counsil stuff makes me an idiot. Diversity at the cost of content and quality and alienating the fanbase isn't always a good thing. Like you I am entitled to an opinion there's no need for the insult, if you think Beat Surrender is the definitive Jam song then it is you that is the idiot.Try listening to songs like In the city to Butterfly collector to man in the corner shop to see Wellers true worth as a songwriter.

@sivilla I agree, Funeral Pyre was their last angry (and angriest) song. After that it was more 'Lets try protesting' instead of 'Lets spit and rage'.

After 81, Paul wanted to take the band in a different direction, less spit and more soul. Bruce and Rick didn't agree and that's why the band split a year later. One of the darkest days in music when they split, I was only seven in '82 and I was a massive Jam fan,

I agree with sivilla. The Jam were "the" band in the day, the later stuff was ok, but should have been saved for the Style Council.

absolute tripe, should have been saved for the style council, I loved the Jam but this was pure garbage, no guitars, understated drums and brass and keyboards the order of the day.

sivilla In between voting bnp and posting shit on forums i bet your finding hard to fuck yourself..

@sivilla I agree with u.it's a catchy tune, not like the gritty stuff on'in the city','this is the modern world'etc, and should have been saved for the style council
