Mr. 44 Lyrics
Greetings from the gutter where the red, red rivers run
I bring you sweet salvation from the barrel of a gun
Is she a virgin or is she a whore?
I don't really give a damn
I'm Mr. 44
I'm a bottomless pit
With nothing in it
A void filled with unclean spirits
A hound of Hell on a long, long leash
Can you count the number of this beast?
Mr. 44
Every time I pull my trigger
The Devil's work is done
Hellfire and damnation from the barrel of a gun
22 Disciples of Hell knocking at death's door
To each his own, but make mine murder
I'm Mr. 44
I bring you sweet salvation from the barrel of a gun
Is she a virgin or is she a whore?
I don't really give a damn
I'm Mr. 44
I'm a bottomless pit
With nothing in it
A void filled with unclean spirits
A hound of Hell on a long, long leash
Can you count the number of this beast?
Mr. 44
Every time I pull my trigger
The Devil's work is done
Hellfire and damnation from the barrel of a gun
22 Disciples of Hell knocking at death's door
To each his own, but make mine murder
I'm Mr. 44

Apparently the Columbine shooters listened to this album/band alot before the tragedy. It's scary, because the music isn't neccessarily extremely quick-paced or overwhelming in nature. Just good old satanic messaging and hard hitting drums, which was apparently enough to (possibly) fuel the motives behind the shooters. While the incident was horrible, I think blaming any part of the music industry is meaningless - people derive their own meanings from music, and the artist is not to blame.
I've heard this song is about serial killer David Berkowitz, also known as The Son of Sam, can anyone confirm/deny it?
I can't for sure confirm, but it can be easily speculated that this is about David Berkowitz. The name 'Mr. 44' could easily refer to the fact that Berkowitz used a .44 caliber revolver to kill. In addition, the part about the hounds of hell can tie back to the fact that he claimed he believed he was carrying out orders given by a demon possessing a neighbor's dog (which turned out to be a hoax and likely a publicity stunt).
