Woman Like a Man Lyrics
I need a piss
Wanna hate
Fuck it up
Come
My love
Eat your meat
Keep your teeth
Run
You lost me
You cost me
You thought me of me, yeah
We're bad
What we do
Stupid fools
You wanna get boned
You wanna get stoned
You wanna get a room like no-one else
You wanna be rich
You wanna be kitsch
You wanna be the bastard of yourself
You wanna get burned
You wanna get turned
You wanna get fucked inside out
You wanna be ruled
You wanna be fooled
You wanna be a woman like a man
Like a, like a, like a
Woman like a man, like a man
Like a woman like a man, treat you like a man
Woman like a man, woman like a man
Like a woman like a man, woman like a man
Woman like a man, like a man
Like a woman like a man, woman like a man
Woman like a man, like a man
Like a woman like a man, like a man
I need a hit
Want to wait
Suck it up
Cum
My love
Eat your meat
Itchy feet
Run
You reach me
You bleach me
You teach me of me, how familiar
We're bad
What we do
Stupid fools
You wanna get boned
You wanna get stoned
You wanna get a room like no-one else
You wanna be rich
You wanna be kitsch
You wanna be the bastard of yourself

Damien explained this song a little at his Sao Paulo show (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpRYS3nQ4KI), saying that he loved a girl, and was angry with her without really realizing it until she didn't sleep with him when he went to visit her. So it seems like the "cheaper ticket" lines refer to him being angry that he exhausted a bunch of his own resources trying to pursue her when clearly she didn't feel the way that he feels about her. I agree with some of the posts up here about the song being about self introspection and pointing out the gender differences involved in a sexual relationship. In that youtube video, Damien states that his hate and anger about the situation came from actually feeling very strong love for the girl. It was only through his view that they're feelings were inadequately matched-- and feeling put out and unloved-- that allowed him to compare her to how men often treat women. Thus, the song becomes a criticism of the playboy lifestyle (possibly his own) as well as an expression of his anger about his own rejection by a girl.
This song also points out one of the things I've often thought about Damien, which is the possibility that his feelings are fleeting. He said he loved this girl a lot, but if that is true, how could he write such a scathing and angry song about her? The lines "I'll get a cheaper ticket next time" and "it wasn't worth the ride" are extremely malicious and hurtful. To me, it just shows that his feelings weren't that genuine to begin with. I mean, who falls in love with a cashier at a grocery store, anyway?? (I'm citing I Remember, btw, for those of you less-versed Damien fans.) Probably an over-analysis, but I think when you listen to a large body of an artist's work, you start to get a sense of who they are.
I may have an answer for why he was able to be so scathing about a girl he apparently loved, though obviously it's only my interpretation. I've never thought love and hatred were direct opposites, because on many ways they're also very similar - when you're really angry at someone and seem to hate them you can't get them off your mind and they bring out powerful emotions, as is the effect when you love someone. The opposition to love, in my opinion, is indifference as feeling nothing for someone is surely different to feeling everything for them? That might...

This song is great, not my favourite by him but still brilliant. I agree with was GoOgOoGiRL77, being about women who's lost her delicacy.
The lines "I'll get a cheaper tickket next time" and "It really wasn't worth the ride" seem to be saying that he tried dearly to make it work with her and made sacrifices for her benefit because she was such a difficult person but sadly she turned out to be woman with little delacacy and he's decided to move on and find someone who isn't so difficult.
Some people don't seem to like this song becasue of its raw sound and use of bad, vulgar language. I, however believes that the the rawness and bad language helps to deliver the song as being angry. The woman who this song's about has no sense of grace which is why Damien intentionally wrote the song like that to fit the meaning.
Well first thing is that the lyrics should read "you want a room like no one else." Not woman. This changes the song quite a bit. I think that perhaps yes the lyrics are to be taken somewhat literally, but in a different sense. I think that perhaps it's not speaking to anyone in particular, but that it is suppose to provoke you. Women are not "traditional" anymore. They are raw and open, and even if they aren't Damien is saying that this is what they are really thinking about. It's also about wanting someone and realizing that after being with them, they are not as exciting as they were in the initial infatuation.
kitsch...is like tready...typical, appeals to eth lowest common demominator of society. Like Paris Hilton..only less dirty ands less cheap.
I can see where people are coming from, but I don't believe this song is about equality. It's true that a lot of men just want to have sex, and that's true for a lot of women now too, but that's not looked at as a positive thing. When someone just wants to "fuck" someone else, that isn't healthy. I believe he's showing regret about their relationship. He's saying that he only wants her for sex, too, and that's the reason why he hates this girl so much; She reminds him of her. Which can definitely be felt in the lines, "You reach me, you bleach me, you teach me of me. How familiar." She's getting to him, and he's surprised she has the upper hand when all she wants to do is be used like he's so used to doing himself. But she's also the kind of girl to get itchy feet; "keep her teeth, and run" instead of trying to work things out. That's why he's saying he'll get someone who's less work next time around. She wasn't worth all of the effort just for sex.
And I do agree that the vulgarity is necessary. By being vulgar himself, he's really shedding light about how much of a monster she was. "You teach me of me."
That's just how I read it.
Wow I like your viewpoint. It furthers what I was previously saying, that he's disgusted with her because her behavior reflects his.

I think you've all missed the point. This is obviously a rant. He's angry. He was used by someone who was a total hollywood-phony user and he didn't see it coming. As angry as he is at her for hurting him, he's just as angry with himself for not seeing her for what she was. He's angry that she lead him and he followed.
I think the 'woman like a man' refers to the fact that he was the submissive one in the relationship. He let her take take him over and he regrets it....deeply.
Honesty, we need it. Sex is the one animallike thing people do, this is a description of this raw side of humans. I love it.
i think the lyrics clealy talk about a woman having a penis
just how I feel right now really
This song took me a few listens to warm up to. At first, I was offended by it, but then once I accepted the language, it became one of my absolute favorites.
This song is the most raw, powerful songs I have ever heard. It entirely captures deep emotions in every word. To me, it's about feeling restless, pumping adrenaline, wanting to scream, rum, just go crazy. Not even about being angry, just feeling purely animal, restless, instinctual. Having to much alcohol, or fire, or adrenaline in your veins to calm down. It's about wanting to stop thinking and just let go.
Damien Rice is the only artist I've ever heard who can capture so much emotion is just the the tone of his voice. And combined with Lisa, it's just absolutely stunning.
