Grace Under Pressure Lyrics
Grace under pressure
Cooling palm across my brow
Eyes of an angel
Lay me down
We still believe in love so fuck you
Cooling palm across my brow
Eyes of an angel
Lay me down
We still believe in love so fuck you

I think this song could either be about the moment before death, or maybe just the way that a lover can make everything seem alright if just for a moment. The gospel choir from "Ribcage" is back, but they just don't seem as almighty as I would have liked. They just seem a little off.
"We still believe in love so fuck you" brilliant line.
Recorded at Glastonbury, or at least the crowd bit at the end was. Would be better if it wasn't for the horrible whistling noise that keeps coming in at the start of the crowd singing that pierces my ears every time I listen to this on my headphones.
Perhaps my favourite Elbow song and rightly so. If I'm feeling overwhelmed I often think about this song and it gives me strength :)
What a song!
I wonder if that line was at all inspired by the famous line in Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow: "They are in love. Fuck the war."
I like the whistle and the person who yells SO FUCK YOU! a little louder than everyone else.
It builds from a quiet moment between 2 people into something as giant as "the belief in love". Like this tiny moment was powerful enough to effortlessly convince someone that love exists against all odds.
Despite it being written years before, I like to see it as a tribute to the way Londoners reacted to the terrorist bombings in 2005.

Might be something to do with Hemmingway's description of courage..?
Simply, it's a love song. How am I so sure? The Grace in question is one of my best friends...
