Your Name On A Grain Of Rice Lyrics

I see the sun settin’ over America
I’m tryin’ to leave my darker side behind
Feelin’ my way down a blue desert highway
Wish my rear view mirror could tell me a lie

The harder I fight the stronger it’s a comin’
I wipe the tears from my eyes
and keep on strummin’
Baby, I ain’t runnin’ away
I’m tryin’ to find you something better inside me

And now my second home is a third world cantina
I spend years alone in the days I can’t see you
And to me the sunset sinkin’ in the sea
Looks like my own bleedin’ corazon

There’s a man comin’ over here
Sellin’ silver and souvenirs
And I will pay full price
For your name on a grain of rice

I am a father, a son and a restless spirit
I can see the light but I can never get near it
What good is my love song
If you ain’t around to hear it

I see the fighter planes tearing’ across the desert sky
Do I curse them or cheer them on?
I still can’t decide….
But the silence they leave behind
Sounds like what I feel inside…

And now my second home is a third world cantina
I spend years alone in the days I can’t see you
And to me the sunset sinkin’ in the sea
Looks like my own bleedin’ corazon

There’s a man comin’ over here
Sellin’ silver and souvenirs
And I will pay full price
For your name on a grain of rice

one minor lyric change: "I spend years alone in the days I can’t see you" should be "I spend years alone every day I don't see you"

This is a great song. One of Roger's best.

You'll have to take those lyric changes up with the band b/c the way I have it listed is the way the band has it listed on their site, and i agree it is a great song

k guys this is songmeaning.net not post your opinion of how good you think the song is. to me this song means he's somewhat sad or ashamed of being on the road he's chosen "Wish my rear view mirror could tell me a lie" maybe the path of rock and roll has made his girlfriend leave him. so he would pay full price for her name on a grain of rice. in order to maybe taste her again or just remember some of the times they had before he it went sour. and he would pay full price because she means that much. he might ship the grain of rice home also just to let her know he's thinking of her

yeah dadams has it right i think he regerts something in his past in this song, moreover no one pays full price for 'name on a grain of rice'. To me thats the theme for the song; he would go beyond the call of duty for the chance to fix the past.

BTW: i think the lryic "i spend years alone in the days i can't see you" kinda makes sence beacuse relationships sometimes turn into this weird thing that u never expected - not together, but can't imagin being seperated from the person (so you each kinda live your own life in a way but still are kinda commited). So the lyric seems to fit if u imagin he sees her from time to time but really knows that when there apart that the last time they saw each other could be the last - ever (hemm hope that all made sence, not good with writing or grammer, and had to many heinekens - 'heres to life' my friends:)
