Draft Morning Lyrics
Sun warm on my face, I hear you
down below moving slow
and it´s morning
Take my time this morning, no hurry
to learn to kill and take the will
from unknown faces
Today was the day for action
Leave my bed to kill instead
Why should it happen?
down below moving slow
and it´s morning
to learn to kill and take the will
from unknown faces
Leave my bed to kill instead
Why should it happen?

Utterly under-rated. My second favorite Byrds song!
Agree. This song is so underrated it makes me sick
For me the best anti-war song of all time and one of the best of the byrds discography. A soldier takin' consciousness of his acting and the aftermath only by sayin'himself...killing,why should it happen!
war is over...if you want!
Guy gets up and has to report to the draft.
a brilliantly crafted anti war message using a slow lulling atmosphere to convey the peace and contentment of a young man lying in bed on a beautiful morning.
But the world has business ready for him and he has his card to an appointment with the army. His number has been drawn
The mid section herald by trumpet and snare is his contemplation of what they want him to do.
But he decides "no!" and stays in his bed.
I agree it is underated and left of the Byrds compilation but we can celebrate it and own it
war IS over if you want it.
49 words and less than 2 minutes-such a powerful message, my favourite Byrds song ever. I owned all their albums and NBB was way out front.
