End Of Our Days

This isn't a love song, nor is it about a love affair. It's about death. At the end of the day, we all die, one way or another. Life slips away. We all escape. Some sooner than others. And from death, there is no escape. This track was written for the movie, "The Bridge," about the Golden Gate Bridge, where more people have ended their lives than anywhere else on Earth. Where people meet their fate, "on purpose," unable to "change direction."

this is truly one of the most beautiful howie day songs. simple lyrics, but it really fits with my life right now. basically he's just talking about some kind of forbidden relationship. other people (friends? ex-girl/boyfriends? current girl/boyfriends?) don't want them to be together. but these two people are so wrapped up in each other that they need to be together. and while their relationship is a little strange, it's something beautiful, and they'll eventually escape from everybody else and their opinions because they don't understand.

Excellent interpretation, TxBxS! I really like that and I think you're absolutely right. However, the music also gives me the feeling I get when something is coming to an end and the hope for the next new thing that is beginning. In particular, it reminds me of the end of last year (my sophomore year in college) when my best friend left but my other friends promised to be there for me this year when she was gone. Such a beautiful song, it will always take me back to that time.

"Here, where they can't find us I dare them to call me out I tell you we met here on purpose I bet they can't wait to wake us up" The singer and whoever he is in love with are, obviously, in love. For whatever reason, people do not approve of them being together, verging on or to the point that they aren't even 'allowed' to be together, so they are hiding. It sounds like it's trouble for the singer more than the other person if they're caught. It also sounds like they're in some sort of interesting, or at least. . . 'other' place, not somewhere they always were or somewhere they just visited, though.

"I know it's a little bit strange It's all a little bit strange" Something about the nature of the relationship and/or the situation they are in, and probably the place they are in, is new to both to them, but that's okay.

"Make a point and ignore them Come on let's wait this out They'll find we never stop turning Sometimes it's tough to change direction" They're going to ignore all of the disapproving people and just wait for them to come to their senses, but they know it's probably going to take them a while.

"At the end of the day, I... Gonna say what I mean, I... Slipping all away At the end of our days We'll escape " In spite of everything, when it comes down to it, the singer isn't going to pretend that he isn't in love with the other person. And when whatever is going on is over (because it does sound like there's some stuff happening that doesn't matter to the song -- just an impression I get), or something like that, they'll either leave the place they're in or leave behind any reasons they had for even pretending to listen to everyone who told them they couldn't be together, and be happy.

(After thinking of the song this way, I realized it reminds me of Stargate Atlantis. How McSheppy. :D)

Anyway, I really, really, really adore this song. It's my favorite Howie Day song, and, as everyone else has said, it's just so beautiful.

omg this song is like one of the most beautiful songs that howie has written...the piano just really sets the mood of the song and its such a pretty song, the lyrics are awesome...everything about it is just awesome

thats my favorite part....it just kinda shows that hes so carefree and just wants to escape from reality almost...just get away and to show that he really doesn't care what anybody thinks of him

It's about an affair. The end of the day represents the day when the divorce is final so that the lovers no longer have to keep their romance a secret.

This song is so beautiful.....

when two people break up (END OF OUR DAYS!!?!?!?!) they still hook up. everybody tells u not to because they think it will be better for u and help u get over the other faster and without any additional pain. anyone who has been through this obviously knows that ur gonna do whatever the hell u feel like doing and saying f u to all the people who want to help u although ur stubborn ass is going to keep on seeing ur ex. And its all alittle bit strange because u know its not supposed to be happening but its something u cant help.
