Sometimes the Lucksmiths can seem too clever for their own good, but rarely are they "punny" for mere rhyming cleverness. "Since I fell from my sweetheart's clutches..." how wonderful is that? There doesn't seem to be too much Lucksmiths chatter, but I wonder, this being an Aussie band ... I wonder about the weather references in this song. It's not Xmas anywhere in "springtime," and because it's not cold and dark (when the streetlights shine...) at Christmas in Australia. Any insight?

I think when they say:

"When the streetlights shine And it looks like Christmas"

It's referring to the lights of Christmas, not at all the weather. If things were very bright and sparkly (i.e. the "footpath glistens"), it probably reminded him of Christmas lights. Because it certaintly isn't spring time, or cold during an Australian Christmas!

Otherwise, their cultural references are often mixed. They have some songs that are talk about American things, and some about Australian. That's sort of changed over time, as they've spent more time in America.
