There?s a dream that I see, I pray it can be
Look cross the land, shake this land
A wish or a command
I Dream that I see, don?t kill it, it?s free
You?re just a man, you get what you can
We all do what we can
So we can do just one more thing
We can all be free
Maybe not in words
Maybe not with a look
But with your mind
Listen to me, don?t walk that street
There?s always an end to it
Come and be free, you know who I am
We?re just living people
We won?t have a thing
So we?d got nothing to lose
We can all be free
Maybe not with words
Maybe not with a look
But with your mind
You?ve got to choose a wish or command
At the turn of the tide, is withering thee
Remember one thing, the dream you can see
Pray to be, shake this land
We all do what we can
So we can do just one more thing
We won?t have a thing
So we?ve got nothing to lose
We can all be free
Maybe not with words
Maybe with a look
But with your mind
But with your mind
Look cross the land, shake this land
A wish or a command
I Dream that I see, don?t kill it, it?s free
You?re just a man, you get what you can
So we can do just one more thing
We can all be free
Maybe not in words
Maybe not with a look
But with your mind
There?s always an end to it
Come and be free, you know who I am
We?re just living people
So we?d got nothing to lose
We can all be free
Maybe not with words
Maybe not with a look
But with your mind
At the turn of the tide, is withering thee
Remember one thing, the dream you can see
Pray to be, shake this land
So we can do just one more thing
We won?t have a thing
So we?ve got nothing to lose
We can all be free
Maybe not with words
Maybe with a look
But with your mind

Well, not only do I think this song is beautiful, but I think it's incredibly meaningful and spiritual. "don't walk that street there's always an end to it. Come and be free you know who I am: we're just living people" come and be free, just be: "pray to be." We all do what we can So we can do just one more thing We won't have a thing So we've got nothing to lose We can all be free Maybe not with words Maybe with a look But with your mind -----------------------"You've got to chose"
There is "realism" in "idealism."
In the same vein of other postmodern peace songs, this song speaks of the end of war, in our world, within our selves. Cat Power challenges the notion that freedom comes aesthetics and words; instead, she concludes it comes "your mind", while placing emphasis on activism ("doing just one more thing").
this could be one of the greatest songs ever that not enough people will hear or take the time to understand. it's up there with imagine
Beautiful song, of course. Chan Marshall has a disturbingly wonderful and deeply touching voice.
To me, this song is about being afraid of death. "We all do what we can, so we can do just one more thing" just strikes me somehow. People these days are so afraid of the world and themselves that they eat all the right things and exercise just the right amount in the right way so they can live a little longer, as though if they hit just the right combination of things they'll live forever.
To me it seems like the words are trying to tell us, we can be free from that fear, we don't have to worry, there's no point. It's all about changing your mindset.
dont kill it, its free.
this song is so freakin beautiful
I think so, but none of my friends seem to.
gorgeous.
though the song is simple. i think there are like 2 chords played the entire time except for a little bit at the end. but anyway, the lyrics are really great and her voice really carries the song well.
it's so gorgeous. especially the harmonies at the end.
