This song was so brilliantly written and helped me get through a break up many moons ago lol. And the honesty Ken sings with portrays so much pain and innocently ask for nothing more than to be remembered fondly and not regret the memories of time together.

I'd think that this song is about the beginning of a relationship that he doesn't want to rush into and risk being her mistake. Maybe she's expressed hesitation or he can sense she's a little uneasy.

IMO, i think this song can be applied after a break-up, and he wants to atleast be remembered as a good person she had known.
